Show I list my CCU degree on an application for an adjunct position at an RA school?
I don't want to taint an RA degree that is DL by compounding it and listing a newly accreditied school (CCU - DETC).

When I say taint, I mean the following -
some people have a negitive view of DL. I do not want to present a DL degree, make them think...hmmm...is it a "good" degree and then present a DETC accredited degree that is not RA and they think...hmmm...are any of these degrees valid?

    Some thoughts:

Does the degree (the CCU MBA) matter? Is it relevant to the position you're applying for, or is it just add-on? If irrelevant, I'd omit it because....

Universities sometimes check when a school was accredited. If they do, you'll be presenting what is, technically, an unaccredited degree. But there's more....

CCU is accredited by DETC. That might actually take away from your application if the school does not accept such degrees for qualifying to teach. Sure, your RA master's is the thing, but why bring up questions.

I guess my take is, what is the upside? We know the potential downside.

If you omit it, you'll always have to omit it. Bringing it up later (say, to qualify to teach a particular course) could create problems. "Why didn't you put this on your application and vita?"

You could also be forthcoming and tell them you have an MBA from a school that was subsequently accredited. If they don't have a problem with DETC accreditation, that is. I'd check that first.

    Just my opinion! :)

I would list it, leave it up the emploer to decide. The more the better, You have plenty of RA degrees to back it up. Rember, your CCU degree is "accredited".

    Just my two cents!

    Never flinch!!!

Your CCU degree is ONLY accredited if awarded after CCU received DETC accreditation AND if it wasn't a teachout from an old unaccredited degree program now dropped (those aren't accredited, period).. I know less by far about HR stuff than does Rich, but I'd say list it with appropriate identification of its status. That way you aren't lying about the degree, nor will you subsequently have to hide it.

This sort of issue is why--shills and trolls notwithstanding--most of us have expressed reservations about the utility of unaccredited degrees--even when genuine and respectable work is involved and even when granted by a reputable school (such as CCU was before accreditation, and of course still is).

    My 2 cents:

The overlap in timing between the CCU degree and other degrees will probably lead to questions. If the answers to those questions make you look good, then list it. If the answers will divert attention from your main strengths, then don't list it.

There can never be too much disclosure (well, except maybe in a burger ad). If you list it with an asterisk, no one can later accuse you of a) hiding the fact that you have an unaccredited degree or b) representing yourself as something you are not.

Besides, it will pale next to your admitting that you were given twenty years for that bank job in Iowa City back in '32.

You WERE going to tell them about that, weren't you??

They can't prove anything...no video proof from '32
anyway, I spoke to the HR department at the school. I was told stories of people that had degrees from schools that were accreditied by organizations that were owned by the owner of the school.

He said if it accreditied that list it. They have an outside company verifiy credentals. I will listed it.

    Hey Dr. Randell,

I remember this old thread. Whatever happened in this situation?

I'm wondering the same. He doesn't even list his CCU degrees in his signature anymore :irked:

I wonder how having more degrees could be a bad thing, just because they are NA. What if they were unaccredited continuing education courses, wouldn't they enhance a resume rather than detract? How does accreditation make them, and the entire resume, look bad?

Hmm, that's a good point. I think back when this post was made(2005) CCU had just gained accreditation. He was concerned that if he listed his UA CCU degree, it would show that the school was unaccredited during the time he attended. I wonder what the new CCU transcripts say? They probably just state they are accredited by DETC.

As a recipient of an application & resume from Randell to teach for me, I can state that the CCU degree was not listed. It probably would not have mattered that much to me if it would have been, since he had four RA degrees (second masters almost completed), professional certifications, teaching experience, good work experience, and some publications and presentations. A very competitive resume, indeed.

Dr Pina - thanks for the kind words. They mean a lot coming from you.

As far as this thread, I honestly do not remember the school I applied to or the outcome. I list a limited number of schools on my resume/CV. The overlap would look odd and draw more questions then anything. I do not list the following:

    •MBA - California Coast University - 2003
•BS in Business Administration - California Coast University - 2001
•AA in Biomedical Technology & Computer Science Technology - University of Phoenix – 2001
    •Bio-Medical Repair Specialist Diploma – U.S. Army Bio-Medical Repair School – 1991

First, I think there is nothing wrong with listing the degrees. U of P sometimes brings snickers but it is an accredited degree and even CCU eventually achieved accreditation.

Second.....dang Randell.....you have an impressive amount of schooling! This plus your signature line. I am impressed. Even your military MOS school is one of the army's longer enlisted schools. I think with Basic training it comes in at about a year of solid learning without breaks (vacation).

AA in Biomedical Technology & Computer Science Technology - University of Phoenix
Bio-Medical Repair Specialist Diploma – U.S. Army Bio-Medical Repair School
BS in Business Administration - California Coast University
BS - Charter Oak State College
Graduate Certificate – University of Florida
    MBA - California Coast University
    MS - Touro University International
    MBA - Trident University
    PhD – Northcentral University

You have achieved zen master status.

It was a year of Basic + AIT (Advanced Individual Training). The school had something like a 40% failure rate and required a higher ASVAP score then the admissions to Warrant Officer school. Yeah, it was tough but add in the fact that I was in during the Gulf War (first one) and anyone that failed was shipped to Medic school or Generator Repair school (lots of sand was clogging generators in the Gulf)...next stop - the "big sand box". Failure was not an option...yeah, no pressure there. :yikes:

Wow, the degrees you don't list make quite an impressive resume on their own :notworthy:
