Dear Board Members, A friend of mine, David Taylor, is directing a documentary that will involve parts of my research. American Voices: From The Writers' Project will hopefully be out by May 2006. He is hard at work interviewing the writers that are still with us. From the web page: (www.sparkmedia.com) " The film will show the most chaotic publishing venture in history and the remarkable national biography it produced. It will show how out-of-work Americans, young and old, found hope in the country's darkest days and created a legacy for American culture. It changed the lives of many who survived it , and gave rise to a vital new generation of American writing. The film will leave viewers with a deep feeling of how that legacy has renewed meaning today. " Just wanted to tell everyone about it. There is also a book coming out by another friend of mine, Christine Bold of the University of Guelph, that will examine the Massachusetts State Project. Entitled Writers, Plumbers and Anarchists: The WPA Writers' Project in Massachusetts, she is hoping it will come out in the Fall of 2005. Just my two cents!
Michael, good deal. I look forward to the documentary. I hope the PhD work is progressing well. Regards, Kevin
It is rough, but I am surviving. If it werent for my running and biking...boy I would be in sad shape. I hope to graduate in May of 2008. If I could just lay off the Dr Peppers. I cant stay on the sauce. It will kill me. I am taking 6 hours in the fall and 6 in the spring. I have at least 6 books I have to read this summer and to pay for school, I have to teach. Other than that, I am kinda lazy. Thanks for asking. The documentary will be on PBS if I had not stated otherwise. I start to turn in rough draft chapters of my dissertation this fall. I hope( Big word -hope) to have a journal article on the Houston City FWP late summer or early fall. I shall keep you posted.
