I've just gotten my copy of the 10th edition of Bear's Guide to College Degrees by Mail and Internet. This is the much abridged book, covering just 100 schools (in more detail), at half the price. This is the first book (ever) that has the byline "by Mariah P. Bear." All by herself. A fine job she did. And so the apostrophe moves to the left one notch, from Bears' Guide to Bear's Guide. The 16th edition of the main Bear's Guide, as Tom Nixon (who is co-author with Mariah) points out, is nearly done, and goes into production this summer. Since publishers really prefer to publish a reference book early in the year, so it will have a 'current' copyright date for longer, Ten Speed may well delay things until ought-six, but I don't know this. I look forward to reading it, in any event. John Bear Author, The World's Worst Maxims, Price/Stern/Sloan, 1973
I haven't bought a Bear's Guide for a few years. All things considered, I might have to break down and get both of them. Keep up the good work everyone! Jack
Mrs. & Mr. Bear: Congratulations (once again) to a wonderful and adept, global and expert publishing duo! A multitude of "Thanks" to our dynamic, DL, accredited-degree, powerful, bare (and Bear) legitimizing and annointing force in education! More ointment, balm, and parfum to your elbow, Mrs. Bear! More mill-deciphering grease to yours, Mr. Bear! More expensive, oil-rigged, super-grease to yours, Tom Nixon! Thanks. p.s. I am waiting for the release of the premier issue of the monthly Bear DL Magazine, the authoritative monthly guide to periodically sorting out the legitimate DL schools from the trash heap of ever-sprouting and continuously-existing, unaccredited, and unwonderful schools!
Bear's Guide (and Bears' Guide) has been a standard reference for me for over 15 years. I am look forward to obtaining the next edition as soon as it is available. It is nice to see that the "shop" has been left in such capable hands. Tony Piña Administrator, Northeastern Illinois University
