Here's a list of accredited colleges whose names I simply don't like or ones that I find strange and/or unusual:

    American Intercontinental University
Columbia Southern University (too diploma mill'ish IMHO)
    College of Wooster
Pennsylvania State University-Erie, The Behrend College
    International Institute of the Americas

As well as many others.... this is just the start. I'm anxious to hear others responses.

Even though I'm a TUI graduate and working on my MBA at TUI the name really bugs me for some reason. Along with the school logo. I wish they would do something with them to make them a little more mainstream.

    How about...

    Defiance College
    Lubbock Christian University

Both RA and offer DL programs.

Also...University of Maryland University College...It just bothers me that they felt the need to put the word university twice in their name...we got it already!

Argosy University - Sounds like a skin disease.

Capella University - Makes me think of winos harmonizing around a flaming trash can.

Well, Beaver and Dyke both changed their names in recent years, and I believe Slippery Rock is due to follow.
Flaming Rainbow University was regionally accredited, now defunct.
So, I think, was Deganawidah-Quetzalcoatl University, now defunct.
One of the most misleading is California State University (of Pennsylvania).
Long ago, I gave a talk at a national journalism convention, where I was identified as coming from Bering Straits University (identified as the oldest permanent floating seat of higher education in the frigid zone). It was a hoax arranged by the convention organizer, and no one seemed to think it odd.

There must be something in the water in Pennsylvania ... lousy beer (Rolling Rock and Yuengling) and misleading college names.

Hey! Being from Pennsylvania and an Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) graduate, I resemble that remark. :D

Actually, I agree with you! IUP is located in Indiana, Pennsylvania and is not associated with Indiana University.

The town of Indiana is the hometown of Jimmy Stewart.

Beer: I agree with you on Rolling Rock, but not on Yuengling. BTW - you left out another lousy PA beer - Iron City.

Not a silly name but I love the acronymns they create.

Hope International University is HI U! Must be said with a southern accent!

    Ball State University -BS U

    Other suggestions!

    BAH

"How would you like your salisbury steak - well-done, medium rare, or bloody red?"

    LOL.

For many years, "Salisbury State University" was the butt of so many jokes ("Salisbury Steak U") that the honorable delegates and senators of the Maryland Legislature had to pass a special bill to formally change the name of the university to "Salisbury University."

Yes, the denizens of the great and free state of Maryland can do without the medium-rare steak! (or is it "stake")?

    Thanks.

Since it's not really part of any of the brances of the military, it just sounds disingenuous.

And, along the lines of California State University (of Pennsylvania), California College of Health Sciences (located in Utah).

Virginia Military Institute isn't part of the military either, but no seems to have a problem with that name. ;)

    Yeah but

    Let's see, AMU and VMI.......

I know there's a difference between the two, I just can't put my finger on it.....:D

You can probably tell who your professor really is at VMI instead of getting two or three different names during a single course (not team taught) as at AMU and trying to guess.

    Did someone say VMI professor?

I recently came accross this interesting piece by VMI professor, Mary Ann Dellinger.

Didn't cadets from VMI actually fight in one of the battles in the Civil War?
