    Hi all,

I am all 'conferenced-out' now, and am ready to try and get some of my PhD chapters into some credible journals. Has anybody on the list had substantial, first hand experience with publishing? I was wondering if anyone knew if there was an authoritative list of the most credible journals out in the market. I am interested in the areas of education and human resource management.

    Cheers,

    George

No real advice to offer here George, just wanted to say congratulations for reaching that point in your educational career and good luck.

Thanks Myles. It may be a little premature, but I wanted to do some scouting and get ready for some publishing. I have been told that if you get substantial parts of your PhD chapters published prior to submitting your final dissertation, the examiners will be hard pressed to 'can' your study. As such, I am trying to be a little proactive - I guess it's an insurance policy!

I have presented a series of papers at conferences lately and have had little criticism. Whether they do not understand the subject material, or do not care, could be the answer! However, I feel a little courageous at the moment and, as such, want to delve into the world of real heavy scholarly review/ criticism. I have also just received one of my major surveys back, and the preliminary findings are amazing.

    Cheers,

    George

    George,

You may want to consider subscribing to a service such as Papers Invited. The service covers a wide range of peer review journals based on specific areas of interest.

    Hello George,

A very good source of the information that you are seeking, with regard to education journals is a series titled "Writing for Professional Publication" by Dr. Kenneth Henson, who is currently with the Citadel. Henson publishes the series every two years in the June issue of Phi Delta Kappan. Your local library should be either have it or if you have access to electronic journal databases, such as EBSCOhost, you can get full text journal articles from Phi Delta Kappan online.

Henson's articles offer excellent advice. One of the nice features is that every two years, he conducts a survey of several journal editors asking them about acceptance/rejection rates, length of time for notification of acceptance/rejection, how long it takes for the article to get into print, how many general vs. focused articles and other useful info.

    Best of luck,
