    As a DIT student....

I keep track of campus activities via local news and DIT's web site. I know they had a huge surge in enrollment this year and this could be a big part of the problem. However, the link you sent indicated problems at several SA schools. Almost like there is some organization to the protests?

SA schools have the problem that they are trying to fit more students into fewer schools. I get the impression that while not a lot of infrastructure was dumped during the recent reorganization, there are some schools that are underutilized and others that are being flooded with apps leading to uneven demand throughout the country. This is occuring at a time of rising demand across the board for higher education.

But hey, look at what happens if they raise tuition at schools in Europe. Students worldwide can be a testy lot....

I have speculated that these problems are related to the merger of ZA universities. Has the merger resulted in a consolidation of campuses such that the pre-existing campuses are no longer able to accomodate the required number of students. Also, as you said, I believe there is a push to increase the number of college graduates in the country. This may well have resulted in an unexpectedly large number of enrollments.
