Apparently Michael Griffin will be the new head of NASA.

    His educational credentials are impressive.
In addition to a doctorate in aerospace engineering, he holds master’s degrees in aerospace science, electrical engineering, applied physics, civil engineering and business administration, and a bachelor’s degree in physics

I'd hate to see his tuition bill.

What happened to Sean? Did he resign?

    yes,

    http://www.nasa.gov/about/highlights/aok_resigns.html

"It is this very commitment to family that draws me to conclude that I must depart public service. The first of three children will begin college next fall. I owe them the same opportunity my parents provided for me to pursue higher education without the crushing burden of debt thereafter. That commitment from them made possible all that I have been able to pursue in my professional life. I owe my children that same option, but I can't do that if I remain in public service."

"Sean" is leaving for a position that is rumored to pay about $500k per year.

Sadly if a person of O'Keefe's government salary cannot afford to pay for his children's college what statement is he making about his workforce (who make less, sometimes considerably) and their aspirations for their children.

Griffin certainly has the technical forte that O'Keefe lacked.

    Me, too!

Dr.SwiftChiefCosmonautCurtainRodder needs to be given due consideration for NASA's top chief position!

Did I offend you by saying Sean, I didn't know how to spell his last name, so just used his first? I have only met him once, and am not on a first name basis, and I didn't mean to pretend I was. Thanks for the link.

    Han,

not in the least. I don't believe your posts have ever offended. I meant it as emphasis (since I have some other names for him after his parting comments), hard to express in this forum. He ended up with the Chancellor job at LSU. Pretty good gig to go from a paltry approx $160k per year to $500k. eh?

Interesting. The work I do is for NASA, so it will be interesting to see how this affects their organizational culture. Right now, we're focused on getting the shuttle back up.

Not bad, I wouldn't mind that kind of raise.

I think getting Hubble back on track is more important, but both keep going on or off - depending on the financial cycle of the government. I wish they would stick with one and compelete it.

Yeah no one has said anything about him today. Found out just recently. We still have much work to do to get the shuttle back in the air. The attitude is great at my end at JSC.

Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. It makes me sick to think that the government is abandoing this spectacular scientific success in the interest of "cost savings." Ordinarily I am no fan of Barbara Mikulski, but I'm with her on this one. She's not ASKING the government to keep the project alive, she's DEMANDING that it do so. You go girl!
