Hello, I'm new to this board & I would like to meet some DL like myself. It would be awesome if they were from SCI too. So here's an intro...
My name's Chanel (like the perfume & fashions.).
I'm taking Fashion Design & Merchandising.
    I'm 19.
    And I'm from MA.
    Anybody else like to share?:)

I'm intrigued by this post. I don't believe in my time on this forum has anyone posted such a thread.

I'm 21, Bus. Admin., work in the logistics/shipping field.

Awesome. I hope that's a good thing. Lol. I think we should be light-hearted and have a good, casual chat sometimes. I almost wanted to go into Business Management, weird how you said that. I'm sure that's not the same though. Thanks for replying though. I really appreciate it.

    holy Toledo...

...it's that Perl script that ran amok, winning the 7,000 posts honor for itself without having a glimmer of self-awareness!

What's that supposed to mean if you don't mind me asking?

Welcome to the board Chanel. There are a few members from Massachusetts. I moved from the Worcester area into Connecticut last year. Best of luck in your studies. Let us know if you have any questions about distance learning, etc.

Ohgod! We're not seriously going to turn this place into a damned dating service, are we?

Hey... crazie8chck... welcome if you plan on making relevant, on-toping, meaningful posts around here...

...otherwise go to eHarmony.com or FriendFinders or Match.com or something, okay?

    Seriously.

I'm fat, bald, toothless and dirty and can meet you halfway in the Berkshires. Oh yeah, I don't have any money.

You'll arrive with a curtain rod, perhaps?

I don't get what the rest of your people's problems are. And I believe the title up top is "off-topic discussions". So if you want to talk snooty about your dream majors then go to the DL forum, OK? And who said I was here to hook up in the first place. It's nice to make friends, unlike you jerks who continue being jerks to people who want to simply introduce themselves on here!

crazie8chck - As a member for sometime, I think the issue is as asking for some personal information, especially basing this on age - which makes it seem like a dating post, rather than a discussion on usual topics. I am not saying this is entirely bad, but just the perception.

I think most of the posts here base their affiliations on degrees and interests (which usually relate) - hence "degreeinfo". The normal off topic discussion are news, hobbies, education, etc. This is just a new type of discussion, and I think will be very interesting to see how others will respond. Welcome and don't run away too soon, it is a great community of people (mostly anyway :) )

In the spirit of your post, I am in California, and would never reveal my age.......... you can guess my gender based on that (though some here still don't get it)...... major: Business.

Well, I didn't expect asking those questions to seem "flirtatious" or anything like that. But I guess most people on here would. I'm sorry for asking at all!

Your attempts to point it back at us and make us out as the odd ducks is Psychology 101. What you did was out-of-place here... in ways, perhaps, that are difficult to articulate but, like obscenity, one nevertheless knows it when one sees it.

Or can you not tell that, instinctively, from the years of postings in the archive here? [a rhetorical question]

    Not more than we.

A lot of this "intro" stuff happens on a lot of messageboards. But I guess you people can't be welcoming. But you can't drop something that is such a miniscule problem.

Hi. My name is Janko (like the Carpathian peasant for whom I was named).
I am older and meaner than everybody else around here.

Welcome aboard. Are you currently using distance learning? What kinds of DL interests do you have? Did you watch Project Runway?

You don't sound mean to me at the moment. I'm taking DL at Stratford Careert Institute. Right now I'm taking Fashion Design & Merchandising then I'll take Sewing & Dress Making. So I learn everyone in order to become a fashion designer. Yes, I watched Project Runway. I loved that show. Was good. Thanks for the welcoming. How about you? Have you done DL or are you?

    Yes.

I don't discuss current projects until they're done. I don't discuss any school I'm enrolled in for fear of special pleading. Is Stratford a degree-granting institution?

    hi crazie8chk

    Welcome to the board,

Nice to see some other younger people showing an interest in DL, we are not really used to any type of informal introductions around here, so that is why there were some negative retorts to your post.

And Unc, no stratford is a career institute much like the learning tree (big in IT training). They are a good school, but much more vocational/career based.

    See: http://www.scitraining.com/

notice no .edu (we all know if a school uses .edu it does not mean it's legitimate, but learning tree also uses .com rather than .edu)

Stratford University (here in Northern VA in Tyson's Corner) is degree granting and ACICS accredited. I see people come into UOP w/ learning tree and stratford career institute transcripts all the time where I work, and being that they are not from accredited universities, they generally have to go through prior learning (work experience/CEU credits) assessment.
