I'm four posts away from senior membership! Where do I get fitted for my decoder ring, and what do I wear to the initiation ceremony?

    Ya mean it's that easy?

You mean that it's that easy to obtain Senior Member status?

What about residency, the thesis, the research? Are you sure that your senior member status will be accepted by everyone? Will it be accredited?

What's to prevent someone from starting a website and offering you full senior member status for, let's say only 25 posts??

The first rule of Senior Membership is don't talk about Senior Membership.

I discovered that a warm bath and soft candlelight helped get me in the mood.

    Oh, oh . . . . . . sorry, wrong membership.

dlady - first you have to make it to "member" status :)

alarmingidea - nice work ... by starting this thread you were able to get 2 posts closer to "senior member" status :)

and now I'm 1 post closer myself :)

There is a rumor (now, if there wasn’t before) that when you reach seven-thousand posts you earn the much coveted degree; “Master of Arts in Discovery of Education and Electronic Learning” (Degree Acronym: MAD EEL). At nine-thousand posts I have heard that you are then elevated to the title “Grand-Arch-Senior-Executive-Emperor of all who have used the letters “D” & “L”. You are then bestowed (no-one knows how) with super-powers, and become able to: discover and assess prior learning merely by thinking about the individual being assessed; impart knowledge and degrees with sheer force of will; teleport yourself to any location; (and) bend the very laws, rules and regulations of any governmental authority to suit your purposes.

Of course, this is only a myth. There is no evidence of which I’m aware that any person has ever achieved this status.

They say that the secret ninth Ivy-league college will be the institution that bestows the degree Master of Arts in Discovery of Education and Electronic Learning upon a person’s seven-thousandth post, in a privately held conferral ceremony.

At the present time, that honor has only been bestowed on a Perl script that got away from its author, an inept hacker on the faculty of a UPS Store mailbox.
