Since my daughter has been applying to law schools, I've done a bit of net surfing to see what it costs these days. (Answer: Astronomical) Lousiana has two state law schools, LSU and Southern University Law Center. Both are ABA accredited. Southern is fantastically CHEAP (by today's standards, only five times as much as I paid in the 'eighties) and was founded in 1947. 1947. Aha. Why would Louisiana feel the need for a second law school shortly after WWII? Hence my question.
Got it in one. Have a look at http://hbcuconnect.com/ if you want to find the lists of the HBCUs, which definitely include Southern University. You may wish to convince her that the merits of the University of New Mexico, all $7,568 of them, much outweigh the horrors of still being near mum and dad ;-) Angela
One word: Yes. I should know, my alma mater is one too...North Carolina Central University. Interestingly enough, they and the other teams of the CIAA will be on ESPN from Thursday to Saturday for the basketball tournament. It has and always will be exciting. The odds on favorite is Virginia Union University, but there will always be a darkhorse. Could this be the year of my Eagles? They did win the whole enchilada in 1989( NCAA Division II Champions). Just a plug. Back to the regularly scheduled programming
Yes it is. It is a wonderful school. Not sure about the law school, but I do a lot of work with their other academic branches. Always a good experience. have hired a number of Southern grads.
Where's the law school? N.O., B.R. or Shreveport? I think it's a wonderful choice, but then Louisiana still has traces of Roman law, so I would.
Yes. Because of what occured at Roswell, New Mexico - in 1947. At which time the "Nosbornes" appeared in the region and Jack Ruby in New Orleans. The implications are clear. Your choice of the term 'astronomical' is telling. Are there schools other than the two mentioned for your daughter to attend or will you consider only the astronomical.
http://www.law2.byu.edu/Admissions/expenses.htm BYU's tuition is extremely low for a pretty good school. Of course, there is the "infamous honor code" . Personally, I could give up the occasional brewski, but can't imagine making it through law school without my morning cup o'joe. Still, for others without my particular hangups (or their own), it is definitely a good deal. Tony
