The "Latest Forum Topics" list now includes a post called "Dr. Bear's Degree Validation Service." Needless to say, this interested me, especially since I do not have, and never have had, a degree validation service. But when I click on it, I get "You do not have permission to access this page." Can anyone else get to that post? I'd love to know who it is from and what it is about. Thanks.
Hi John. I saw the new thread earlier this morning, but it dissappeared soon after that, before I had a chance to read it. Talk to the moderators. They may still have it and can show it to you. I can tell you that the thread starter was 'russ'. There were no replies posted.
This was a troll from Russ. At the time I read it there were two replies, both of which called him on it. If I can recover the thread from my browser's cache then I will post further information about it.
I read it. It was innocuous, and didn't seem to be an attack on John. Perhaps one could read into it and come to that conclusion, but I didn't.
I too read it. I assume that Russ did it to demonstrate his suggestion for an alternative to accreditation. The suggestion is privately owned Degree Validation Services. They would make all of their money without burdening schools in the least, instead potential employers would pay a fee for the degree validation service.
Isn't that pretty close to what SRU does? A little different, they just have another division of the same outfit say: "Yup.it's accredited alright."
Rats, I go out of town for one day and miss a troll sighting!! On a funny note, I was at a social networking conference, and one of the talks were about newsgroups and discussion forums, and trends, etc..... they actually defined trolls, as it was one of the categories of people on these types of boards..... though not related to my research, it was VERY interesting. If I can get the copy of the presentation, I will post it.......
Yes that is exactly what SRU (St Regis University) did. They apparently started up (or supported the start up) of at least a couple private degree validation services, that would say glowing things about SRU. As far as I know, it was a ground breaking new degree mill technique. IIRC, it contributed to the Georgia school system being temporarily fooled by the SRU academic frauds.
the time line 10 of the 11 Georgia teachers had their SRU degrees blessed by Sheila Danzig. The 11th got the nod from a legit credential evaluator who was overly trusting, and insufficiently diigent. After Danzig told a reporter in an Education Week article that she was receiving paymens from SRU each time she evaluated a degree, SRU created ACAC and then couple of credential evaluators after that. There were a couple of SRU "professors" listed for a few days on the ACAC site, as well as a link to the site on the SRU pages. But they got rather quieter about that for a while. ACAC is back to being mentioned on web pages that seem to be connected to the SRU group, though: the goatbaggey "International Commission for Higher Education" says that The same ICfHE page then lists the luscious entities it has in its dogcloset: Breyer State, Barrington (isn't that a radioimaging agent??), Ameritech, Fort Young, PanAmerica, etc. These last three have a certain ...aura... of familiarity about them.
