http://www.prweb.com/releases/2005/2/prwebxml203955.php Cheers, George (...or is this one of those self-publish sites???)
WebPR is simply a paid public relations (News Release) site. If a company is willing to pay, they will post almost anything. There is no effort to verify the accuracy. Independent media may or may not elect to use the release.
I hadn't realized that this was something new since this validation has previously been discussed elsewhere. The University of Wales web site is consistent with the press release. See http://www.wales.ac.uk/newpages/external/E16.asp#valid
This validation arrangement is listed on the University of Wales' website: http://www.wales.ac.uk/newpages/external/E7204.asp I don't much like this British practice of "validating" colleges to offer a different university's degrees. I mean, if a student didn't really work with a university's professors or take its classes, then it's hard for me to see what meaning there is saying that the student earned that university's degree. But that's a cultural thing, I guess. The validation practice is certainly well established in Britain and its former colonies. Anyway, in this Robert Kennedy case I assume that the arrangement will fall under the scrutiny of the British QAA, an organization that I have great respect for. If the QAA checks this thing out, including site visits, and then approves it, I can't really complain. Actually, entering into one of these validation deals might be a better way to go for a would-be university of limited means, as opposed to offering unrecognized and doubtful degrees of its own. The validating university will presumably perform some of the administrative, curricuoum design and internal quality oversight functions for the daughter school.
I think Robert Kennedy College conduct classes for Uni of Wales MBA program and the degree/diploma is awarded by Uni of Wales. For example... http://www.tasmac.ac.in/wales/html/abouttasmac.shtml (University of Wales, UK validated TASMAC to offer the MBA and BA (Hons) programmes. )
