Normally, the issue of controversial profs under fire bring out the fierce first amendment supporter in me. At best, such occasions make me highly ambivalent.

Not much in the case of Ethnic Studies professor Ward Churchill - just yesterday resigned as departmental chair at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Tomorrow, Fox New's talk host Bill O'Reilly will hear the most violent statements by Ward - a local fixture for nearly 15 years - and the story will go national. CD's indict him, which you can hear here
    http://www.khow.com/hosts/caplis-silverman.html

Churchill held a news conference Tuesday: his sycophantic Ethnic Studies department members defended him for four minutes, he himself was not present - no questions answered - the fifty some students in attendence applauded for two minutes before the fifty or so reporters.

Bull horns and violent shoutinh matches have occured on the Boulder campus.

The campaign exposing Churchill of course has left old media in the dust. The cause of defrocking Churchhill has come fromfour or five local radio talk shows, bust especially KHOW's (Denver) afternoon lawyers Dan Kaplis and (former Denver prosecutor) Craig Silverman.

This Monday morning and last Friday he said he was for non-violence,but apparently he lied. Since then Churchill has been

CD's from his own web site (talks given in Oakland)
Churchill: "I believe in armed struggle - I have engaged in armed resistance from time to time, for over twenty years..."

There needs to be bigger 9/11s - sarin gass, nuclear ones, say Churchill.

On another clip, he goads a student wanting to commit sabotage into doing more because mere sabotage won't kill enough people.

Lecture title: "Pacifism and Pathology From The American Left" in which he criticizes the Left for trying to prevent breaking windows in Seattle 1999.

"A single action like 9/11...needs to be followed up..." he says. "So it needs to be followed up - so get busy! That's your homework assignment." The audience laughs in the recording.

THERE is a Colorado State law that makes it illegal for State employees to advocate violence; the State's governor has come out for his firing; these radio talk show lawyers say the only way Churchill will keep his job is if his own words get supressed in court! Plus, with civil liability born by the University of Colorado, tenure will be no defense.

Future news: Wednesday, O'Reilly will air Churchill's clips for a national audience on "The O'Reilly Factor." Thursday, the famously impotent Board of Regents will meet to respond to the crisis.

How does this situation arise? The left practices "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and protects extremists like Ward. (For more, see my post on Ward in the Politics Discussion threads.) It's the consequence of consuming Marxist koolaid.

A contextualizing comment: at the same time that dissenting non-egalitarian non-leftist voices have been excluded from American universities, tenure has protected radicals from exposure and cowed the non-extremist left.
