Good Morning, Our son is making the move to Raleigh, NC seeking a job in marketing. He has a resume that includes being seasonal manager of a Hickory Farms. Ideas and leads appreciated. Hille
A lot of the local real estate companies have entry-level opportunities in marketing available. He'll have to ask around, but there are a lot of real estate companies to try.
Marketing degree Hello, Thanks for the suggestions. He has an undergrad degree in Marketing, Lewis School of Business, Marshall University. (Deans List) 2004. His experience with Hickory Farms includes managing a kiosk in a mall, hiring, doing all the banking, stocking, ect. This seasonal job included a week corporate training out of state. He has worked within our family business and has a realistic concept of actual work. Thanks again. Hille
As someone who lives in Raleigh I want to extend a welcome to your son. Raleigh is a nice place to live and there should be good opportunities in marketing. Although I am not in the marketing area I would expect the job market to be competitive as there are marketing graduates from NC State, UNC - Chapel Hill, and Duke which are the 3 main universities that comprise the Research Triangle Park area. Wake Forest U. is not too far away and the local area also supports smaller institutions that include North Carolina Central U, Meredith College, Peace College, Shaw University, St. Augutine's College, and 2 community colleges. My area is IT and my advice has been to have a job to come to in the area as opposed to getting here and then looking for work. The latter can sometimes be rough. Nonetheless, I wish your son the best of luck. John
My suggestion would be to look at: SCES Monster Hotjobs I have advertised jobs on these sites when hiring; I occasionally look at them, and there are usually a number of jobson them. I agree the competition is going to be heavy in that area because of the number of schools.
Raleigh is a great place. American Eagle has shifted it's operations hib to RDU and they were hiring up to 150 people at all levels by the end of this month. There are several new comapnies coming to RTP. Tell him to check the News and Observer Newspaper online.
John, I'm in I.T. as well, looking to relocate to the east coast and the Raleigh/Durham area is probably #1 on my list. I've got about 10 years of experience in the industry (military & private sector), with an M.S. in Management-IT. Know of any companies and/or recruiters in the area that are looking for experienced professionals? Sent a resume off to Duke, N.C.State & UNC didn't appear to have much available.
Craiglist.org Hi, A work friend kindly shared the above site with me. Hope this helps with some job hunts. Hille
