Using multiple library files in Endnote - is it advisable?

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone on the board had experience in using Endnote and, in particular, using multiple library files for the development of one document.

I currently have one library file for my PhD thesis, which contains approximately 320 references. This will no doubt expand, and I would like to separate it out into the various chapters, or themes.

I have read the user guide and posts on various uni discussion boards suggesting this is possible, but it is not advised. Why do you think it is not recommended to do this? I understand that you have to have each library open when you go to build your Bibliography, but does this create problems?

Any thoughts or advise on the above would be greatly appreciated, before I go ahead and give it a burl.

    Cheers,

    George

I've recently started using EndNote myself (version 8) and took a class on how to use it. Someone asked a similar question, and the instructor seemed to think it was a bad idea as well. I think it was just because it complicates things and maybe can cause formatting problems.

But hey, give it a try, you can always go back to using only one.

Thanks Edowave. I think I will stick with one main library, but split it up yesterday. It seemed a good idea at the time, but the more I work with it, it is pain.

    Cheers,

    George
