[This is being posted with Chip's permission] Very helpful advice was given here on how to sell the book; thank you. It now exists; one copy in my hands, and 500 copies in Allen Ezell's garage. I had planned to be very much involved in selling it, and developing the website. Instead I am being the fulltime caregiver for Marina, who had one big spinal fusion surgery last week, and will have a bigger 8 to 10 hour spinal surgery next week.* So Ezell, thankfully, has taken on the work of selling books. Here's the deal. We cannot compete with Amazon, which sells the book for under $13. (Our copies cost us about $11.) Buy one there and we each earn 22 cents. (That's fine. We're not in this for the money, needless to say.) We are offering a 'value added' deal. For $25 (includes shipping), you get 1. The book 2. A CD of images -- hundreds of photos from Ezell's DipScam days at the FBI; some of our PowerPoint presentations to HR and registrars, etc. The CD is not quite done (see paragraph 1) but it will be early next year and sent to buyers. 3. An updating service: at least three update emailings at 3 or 4 month intervals. 4. Autographed by the authors if you wish.** 5. You get it now instead of waiting until it reaches the Amazon warehouse or your local bookstore. Orders from us can be done by credit card (PayPal), check, cash, money order at http://www.degreemills.com For direct orders to Amazon, etc.l, go there. (Yes we plan to become Amazon Associates but hasn't happened yet.) Or ask your loocal library to get one or more and read it there. (Publisher: http://www.prometheusbooks.com) Thank you. John _____________ * For people who know Marina, surgery blog at http://circledance.tripod.com/info ** Not sure of logistics. You may have to get a signed one from Ezell, then mail it to me. Or I mail you a big label to stick in. Or we have lunch and a sign it. Whatever.
And, for those of you that have websites, it would be a nice gesture to put a link to DegreeMills.com on your website. And, no, I don't get a percentage of the profits. Tom Nixon
Oh, bum bum bum!!! I received an email from Amazon asking for my updated credit card details - I responded as I am so desperate to get my little hands on a copy. THEN I see your message John with all the extra freebies - THEN, I go back to Amazon and beg and plead to cancel my order - they say no. SO I am stuck with a single copy, unsigned, without all bonus titbits...and stuck on a slow boat from China. Merry Christmas to me :-( Cheers, George
George, I would help you out, but I loaned my 15th ed. out and never got it back!!! At least you will have it (sooner or later with Amazon!)
My heart bleeds, George. Anyone who is thanked as effusively as you are in the preface to the book deserves something. When I get home, probably 5 or 6 days, I'll air mail you a copy. I hadn't thought through how to offer the CD + updates to people who buy the book from Amazon, etc. I guess, since the Amazon price (in the US) is about $13, and our package price is $25, that would mean $12 for the extras. Will discuss this with Ezell. John Bear Co-author, Degree Mills: the billion dollar industry that has sold more than a million fake diplomas http://www.degreemills.com
Thank you so much John. My Amazon copy is being sent today (received the confirmation mail) but the signed copy will be far more precious. In fact, I think I will donate the Amazon copy to the University of Adelaide Library, so it can be used for future research in years to come. All the best and best wishes to Marina for a speedy recovery. Cheers, George PS thanks for the offer Han, but my 15th Ed is safe on my desk!
Hello John, I am pleased to hear that Marina's surgery was successful and I hope that the mystery of her sore shin will be resolved quickly. You and she are in our thoughts. I have been eagerly anticipating this book and will gladly pay the $25 for the "extras". Since I have created a number of educational CD-ROMs in the past, I would be happy to offer any assistance that I can to help you get your CD ready (free of charge, of course, in gratitude for the years of information and pleasure that I have received from Bear's Guide and Bears' Guide). Tony, thank you, I accept with pleasure. Communicating on the hospital's terminals is not easy. Can you please send me an Email, to remind me, and I'll be in touch next time I'm home, in a few days. Thanks. John
