Has anyone on the board ever taken the Tony Robbins or Dale Carnegie courses? Your thoughts and opinions? Did they work and were they worth the cost.

Please only answer if you have actually attended the courses.

    Thanks
    W.

    W:

My wife spent several hundred dollars on the Tony Robbins courses. Tony made some positive statements, however, imo, the product did not warrant the investment.

    W? W?

Hmmmm, now I know why there is such derision for George W. Bush. Sounds like jealousy over the initial, W.

    Don't worry, I want tell anyone Mr. Engineer.........:D :D :D

Are you asking about his live events or his tapes/CD?

I haven't attended any of the Tony Robbins "live" events (too rich for my blood) but I've used his Personal Power II program and thought it was the best $150 I ever spent. At the time I was an undergrad not knowing what I wanted to do and failing out of school. After doing his program I went from someone on the verge of being kicked out to getting on the dean's list the next semester. I also lost about 20 pounds.

I recently got his updated program (Get the Edge or something.) It's basically a scaled down and slightly updated version of his Personal Power II program. Personal Power II takes about 30 days and a lot of people wouldn't do the assignments. The new program can be done in a week. Personally I liked the older and longer program, but I guess a lot of people want a quick fix.

I saw him live for one day about 6 or 7 years ago. It was well worth the $150 or $200. I also bought one of his CD collections (~$150) a while back - it was worth the money as well.

    WOW! This is great, edo.

Did you have to exercise, curb your intake of fat grams and carbs, or was it just a matter of listening to Tony's tapes?

    I've been to them all

    Mr Engineer,
I have been to both Tony Robbins and Dale Carnegie. As for the investment value, I would say yes. You will get back much more then the cost, IF you apply and follow his strategies.

Tony Robbins has a series of seminars, Unlimited Power, Personal Power I and II, Get the Edge, Sales Mastery, Date with Destiny, Masters university, Financial Mastery, etc.

Having worked in sales, I would mention that TR tapes was the best money I spent. In a sales room of 140, the top 3 salespeople, myself and two others, were listening to Tony daily. We made more money then most of the room combined.

He provides usable strategies to help you to take action. I also like the fact that he has been field tested. he went from broke to a millionaire in one year. I know friends who have used his strategies to improve their marriages, lose weight, make more money, increase their energy and much more.

if you were to buy them, buy them on eBay. You can get his PPI or PP2 for anywhere from $10-$50. His get the edge will run you about $30-$80. Unlimited power will run you around $10-$30. I have made back much more then what I paid for his seminars (i paid retail too, OUCH). I have attended his live seminars, and also found them helpful.

Dale Carnegie were good too, but I didn't see the immediate financial increase like I did from Tony. He has a lot of valuable strategies, but I benefited more from TR.

For the pennies you can buy these seminars for on ebay, don't wait. Each program is slightly different, but the PP2 is the seminar that seems to include the majority of his strategies. GTE is his most recent seminar. Good luck.

With exercise and listening to CDs I lost about 20 pounds.

After I read the Atkin's book and went low-carb (I don't recommend going low carb until you read the book!) I lost 70 pounds.

    Clinton trusted Tony too!

    Mr Engineer,
I remembered that you were a Democrat from your posts, and thought of one more thing. When Clinton was faced with the Monica/Whitewater scandal he met with Tony at Camp David to seek his advice. It looked like CLinton was dead to rights and would certainly be removed from office in disgrace.

When he came out of Camp David, Clinton was re-energized and came out of the scandal with the Presidency. Clinton was able to improve his approval rating and kept his job. Tony is a master at identifying challenges and finding winning strategies. His list of clients is amazing: Olympic athletes, PGA pros, Presidents of countries, famous musicians, actors screenwriters, etc.

Thanks for the response. And no, I am not a Democrat. I have been a registered Libertarian since 1992. Are you a Republican? or should I say a Bush Conservative? Unlike yourself, I won't assume until you respond one way or the other.

So, Tony is responsible for Clinton remaining in office, huh? No wonder I didn't receive much from the tapes my wife purchased........:(

A friend of mine and his wife spent tens of thousands of dollars on Tony Robbins courses. Yes, tens of thousands! I can see how Robbins gets to be the millionaire!

    Two things:

First, I find it interesting that in the 1970's Tony Robbins' "nom de guerre" was "Tony Sunshine." That's so cute.

Second, if you are at all interested in Robbins' tapes, buy them on eBay. I just checked and found a complete Personal Power II program that recently sold for $14.95 (as opposed to the $150 mentioned above.)

OK, I'm in violation of your last request. I never attended Tony Robbins' seminars nor purchased any of his infomercial programs. But I have read (or at least skimmed) two of his books (at the library, didn't buy his books either) and have also read some biographical information about him. So even though I didn't attend his seminars I still have an opinion. (Bet you're surprised. :D )

Tony Robbins' (who now calls himself "Anthony" Robbins) programs are based on neurolinguistic programming (a.k.a. NLP) and the programs got started in their infancy after he attended an NLP certificate program after being kicked out of the house by his mother at age 17. (IIRC, he didn't complete the program and never got the certificate.)

If you want to benefit from Tony Robbins-style self-improvement then it might be wise to get a few books on NLP. In researching books on these subjects you'll find the same language used as in Tony Robbins' books and infomercials: "Take action!"....."learn to use your personal power!", etc. You can learn about NLP and how to apply some of its concepts without spending the $$$ for Tony's seminars or programs or even going to E-Bay and buying them cheaper from someone else. Also you'll get a broader picture of NLP instead of just one salesperson's (errr "motivational speaker's") perspective.

As a side point (but related, so stay with me here) the cosmetic company Philospophy sells a moisturizer called "Hope in A Jar". Isn't that just a terribly refreshing name? After all, what most cosmetic companies are selling is indeed just that....hope in a jar. Tony Robbins is also selling hope, and at a markup margin that's comparable to the exorbiant prices of products put out by most high-end cosmetic companies.

I know this is a painful question, but it has to be asked . . .

Is there anyone else here who, when looking at Tony Robbins, is reminded of Lurch from The Adaams Family? :d
