I opened the local paper this morning and read a comment that basically said with the war in Iraq, we as a nation have nothing to be thankful for and that if the citizens of US want to know who the real terrorists are, we need to look no further than the White House. If this type of attitude can exist in Wichita, KS it must be prevalent everywhere, so I felt compelled to post something. As you sit down to eat tomorrow, please don't forget to give thanks for all the men and women who so willingly defend our freedoms and families. That siad, I want to personally thank each and every one you who have served to protect this nation. Thank you to those who lost a mother/father, son/daughter, brother/ sister, aunt/ uncle, or friend. Your ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten. Pray for those serving and their families, their thanksgiving will be somewhat different. Pray for the president (whether you support him or not), that he will have wisdom, resolve, and compassion. Pray for the protection of innocent in Iraq. Pray for our enemies, that wisdom will guide them. And pray that our men and women in Iraq may be home soon. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest
The freedom of speech... It Is The Soldier, by Charles M. Province, USMC "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag." These freedoms do not come cheap. As for the reporter who wrote that article...maybe they should go live in Iraq for a while. I'm sure his/her attitude about being thankful would change. As much as I believe in our freedoms, I think irresponsible statements like these only serve to perpetuate terrorism. The terrorists are reading bull**** like this and get it in their heads that the United States is falling apart. Jane Fonda (AKA Hanoi Jane) went to Hanoi, Vietnam in the 60's to protest the war. Her statements only hurt those that were sitting in captivity as POWs for years. That is not freedom of speech...that is criminal. Ahhh...I will get off of my soapbox for now.
Perhaps we could pass the plate on DegreeInfo for a one-way ticket to Iraq for this fine journalist. Then, in about a year, we could pass the plate again and bring this person home.
Russell... Put me down for $10 for the one-way trip TO Iraq. You may be hard pressed to get a penny out of me for his or her trip back to the United States.
Again you are confusing the military (i.e. the foot soldier) with the Bush administration. I commend each and every soldier, sailor, marine and airmen for their duty not only in Iraq, but worldwide. I condemn the action of the frat boy from Texas. Never confuse the two. Most intelligent people do not.
I would glady pay the full cost of a one way ticket for both of the Bush twins to go and serve in the Army. There would be no better action that would show that Bush's (err really Karl Rove's) statement of "a just and noble cause.." is not merely just hot air. It has always seemed that it is easier to let someone else die, or some other family see their children, brothers and sisters die and not have to pay the same price. The CON's are out in force spouting off again - full of hot air and still willing to let others pay for thier actions. Typical - isn't is?
Oh yes, those rotten conservatives who have taken America into one war after another: Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and Clinton.
Having read the above postings I'd like to say that I'm thankfull to live in a a time and place where there can be such strenuous disagreement without anyone having to worry about that loud knock on the door in the dead of night. Best wishes to all, Jack
I'm thankful to post on a website where in one thread a poster can "commend each and every...marine..." and in another thread the same poster can say that some people are "like most Marines that I know- pansies with big mouths, little brains, and low IQ's." http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16880
The cost of the ticket invested in a few counseling sessions and a prescription of Paxil would certainly help diminish this OCD over the Bush twins..............
Re: Re: A Thanksgiving Message Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. When I was in Saudi/Iraq/Kuwait in the first Gulf War, we got shortwave BBC broadcasts about the anti-wat protests going on in the United States, and it was thoroughly demoralizing to hear about it. Our attitude was that if you weren't with us, then you were against us. If you truly want to support the troops, keep your mouth shut as long as they are in harm's way. Like it or not, the troops love President Bush as a rule, the same way we loved his father back in 1991.
Re: Re: Re: A Thanksgiving Message There are two or more ways Mr. Bruce. Of course you are quite the one dimensional person, so I suspect that you cannot differentiate between the two concepts. If you choose to be a lapboy for this administration, then keep your mouth shut, that is your right. Some troops like Bush. I suspect things have not changed since the mid-80's but most troops won't let you know if they didn't support their CIC (it is called insubordination. Of course you have spouted your mouth off the past using the word "most" or a "majority of" when you don't have the information to justify it.
