Received word today that The Rev. Andy Jenkins, President of the small Methodist Protestant Church, headquartered in Collins, Mississippi, died this morning as a result of an auto accident Monday night.

This is especially sad for me. Bro. Andy was a friend of mine.

The Methodist Protestant Church, at one time, believed deeply in segregation believing "racial segregation serves the interests of both blacks and whites."

Bro. Andy and a number of other MPC leaders fought long and hard to change this policy and the church now includes members of many racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Please pray for the Jenkins family and the MPC.

    My condolences to you, Jimmy.

I am, however, glad to hear that the late Mr Jenkins repaired some of the horrible damage done by racists to the remnant of the M.P. Church--such damage was clearly an aberration in light of the history of the Methodist Protestants considered as a whole.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord...

Thank you, Uncle Janko. Bro. Andy was recently a guest in my home which makes his death a little harder to take.

The MPC is really shaken as Bro. Andy is credited with helping strengthen it and bringing it into the 20th and 21st centuries.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the funeral that will be held on Monday, the 29th at the First Methodist Protestant Church in Kosciusko.

I will ever be thankful to have had such a good friend who challenged the times.

Thanks, Mike, I appreciate it. While I think about how hard tomorrow will be, I cannot imagine the pain his family will be experiencing. Thanks be to God for His tender mercies, grace, and compassion.

Have received the details. Bro. Andy was on his way to Alabama to preach a revival. He was rear ended by a drunk driver and sent into oncoming traffic.

What makes this so tragic is that 25 year's ago, Bro. Andy's brother, also a minister, was also killed by a drunk driver.

Sounds like a fine man with Christian values we can all admire. Take heart that he is enjoying the reward we all seek. He will be remembered in my prayers.
