Any Vegans or Vegitarians on board? Due to poor genes, my metabolism is very low. I gain weight quickly even when I eat less than the average person and work out nearly every day. I tried Atkins, and lost 23 lbs (in 4 months) but am gaining it back rather quickly. I was looking into perhaps a Vegitarian lifestyle as heavy meat products no longer agree with me - any insight into this? Any advise on good cookbooks/books or programs?

    Thanks
    W.

    laco oval veg here

The name of the game is EAT more. Smaller portions of a mixture of high fiber ie: fruits, veg., Complex carbs are also a must ie: baked potatoes, lean meats ie: fish (salmon great also for essential oils) chicken w/o skin, and yes fats not the high trans fatty kind like butter, fast foods, ect... Some essentials for weight loss drink more water, high intake of dairy ie: low fat cheese, milk, yogurt ( has been proven to burn fat deposit )
For exercise need to develop more lean mussel, which burns fat. Brisk walks over running also helps with fat reduction.

All above are just some of things that will help increase metabolism and shed the unwanted fat. Be aware that a healthy average of weight loss is 1 to 2 lbs per week. If one looses too much weight, at once they are most likely to regain it back and more some. Do not ever think of a diet as such. It must be lived, become part of you and thus becoming a lifestyle.

    Good luck......

Wait...you're a "laco oval" vegetarian, by which I assume you mean lacto-ovo, but you're recommending lean meats, fish and chicken to someone requesting info about a vegetarian diet? What's up with that?

My wife and I are almost vegan. We eat butter and cake which has egg. We eat soy cheese but not casin free soy cheese. No meat, fish, egg, milk, or cheese.

As far as a good cookbook, you can go with the PETA cookbok which is available form their website. Also, our first vegitarian cookbook was The 15-Minute Vegetarian (ISBN # 0-8317-7285-9).

Get a copy of Vegetarian Times, it is full of good info.

    Good luck-

Small minded religious hater murders plants!

I've been vegan for 15 years. Now you can accuse me of phytocide.

In the past few months I have cut away down on meat consumption. I have noticed I feel much better. I also digest and eliminate more easily.

It's all about being healthy and avoiding serious medical complications, Gus. The information was posted for that reason and that reason only.
