This is the first time I write on this board and I hope to find some advice.
I am a native speaker of Arabic and I am very interested in English Language. My aim is to have the Ph.D in Translation oneday.
Distance learning is the only way in which I can study. Some years ago when I leaved school,I had no idea about distance learning colleges and schools,so cahnces were limited for me.I had a diploma in Business English from Business Training Ltd in Manchester. Now I am studing another diploma from the same institute in Advanced Business English and I am also studing a diploma in Freelance writing from Education Direct in U.S.In few months, I will have the A level in English language and literature and enroll in Combridge certificate of proficiency in English.
My current level in English is excellent and I will be proficient by the time I finish my courses.
I found some universities offer Arabic-English-Arabic courses by distance learning.Unfortuenately,All courses are postgraduate qualifacations and require a BA degree.I knew also about Intercollege,Ltd which offers a translation course in two modules beginning and advance.I had the the replacement test online and was replaced in the advance module for postgraduate certificate. Then I knew that the PG certificate is open only for people who have BA although I will study the same mode and do the same assignments.
The Institution of linguistics in London holds an international pG diploma in translation every year but an applicant should have a honours degree in the source language.Herior Watt university , tow universities in South Africa, and a university in Astralia offer MA and pg diplomas in English-Arabic translation.I sent some requests explaining my level in the language and my studies but no encouraging reply was mailed to me.
Many people can tell me to have a BA degree. The problem is there is no specific major "linguistics,English, or litrature" will consider all the subjects I have studied since they are variouse but relevant to translation fuctions.I am 23 now and I have no time or money to wast in two year-"or more" BA degree. I want to start my pg studies in 2006 or before. My translation skill is good and I do not need to improve my English more to be able to translate.I feel it is not fir to deal with the applicant according to the degree h/she has gained without any regard to his/her other certificates and diplomas.
Some universities consider the previous work experience but I am still young and my experience is not long.
Can anyone advise me?Can I get MA degree or PG diploma without a BA degree? Are there any universities offer BA in less than one year in convenient fees "not more than 4000 Dollars"? I am realy disappointed and waiting for an answer.

Charter Oak College has a BA or BS degree with a laguage concentration http://www.cosc.edu/Forms/concentration.cfm

You might be able to obtain credit via portfolio at COSC.

Also see BAin4weeks link on this web site.

Providing your place of residence always helps in providing options - for example if you live in the ECC then the UK Open University may be an option.
