Four decades of leadership in learner-centered higher education and Union's president talks about "getting the word out" is if it was started yesterday. Union has always been pathetic at marketing itself. Comments like those from Sublett show a continuing naivete that interferes with Union's potential prosperity.

I attended commencement last year. The party the night before was lame, LAME! When I recalled of all the events I helped coordinate during my Air Force career, I coudn't help but think that 6 or 7 people could have put on a great event for the same money they spent.

The next day, the actual commencement, was terrific. Traditional, with hundreds of learners graduating, the best parts were the speeches given by three graduating students. The lamest part was the keynote speaker, some irrelevant throwback to Union's days as part of "the movement." Why couldn't they find someone who might bring funding or other improvements and toss that person an honorary doctorate? Hell, I've even suggested they sell the naming rights to the school! "Warren Buffet University" or "The Jobs Institute" anyone?
