When we sold our school marketing business, and my book copyrights to Pearson in 1998, I had a long-term non-compete agreement, which prevented me from doing anything for pay in higher education other than writing or speaking. The non-compete is over, and as of today, along with my co-author Allen Ezell, I have gone to work as a consultant and advisor to a company called US Investigations Services, which used to be the investigative arm of the Office of Personnel Management, and was 'privatized' during the Clinton administration. Here is the official announcement: As of September 15, 2004, Allen Ezell and John Bear have become consultants and advisors to United States Investigations Services (USIS), for matters related to unrecognized schools and degrees, and fake credentials. With more than 7,000 fulltime employees, USIS is one of the nation’s largest providers of security investigations and employee screening services to the federal government and private industry, including advice, counsel, and investigations regarding the use of fake degrees and credentials. Ezell and Bear’s involvements may include consulting with USIS researchers, providing new information from the world of degree mills, and putting on workshops and seminars for USIS clients and, on behalf of USIS, for the general public and others. USIS can be found on the Internet at www.USIS.com.
May I be one of the first to congratulate you Dr. Bear. It’s good to hear you’re still actively involved in issues regarding higher education.
I'm not going to congradulate you because I expected nothing less. How will this impact the Romanian investigation, if at all? If you don't want to say in public, then maybe you can email us a group message, if you still have all our email addresses. Be advised (for the naysayers): I do not wish to rush the Romanian investigation, but am simply curious, and my curiousity continues to grow, and will continue to grow!!!
Conga rats John! I am eagerly awaiting the new book next year (order and payment already in!) Cheers, George
Terrific news! I wish you all the best and hope that you strike fear and trembling among the "not so wonderfuls". Tony Piña Northeastern Illinois University
