I was sent to a naturopath with a website. I'm all for augmenting traditional western healthcare with alternative medicine, but when looking at the claims made, smelled fishy, so I pulled up the bio.

This is what he says about his education:

Graduate of the Maritime Academy in Poland and the Aviation Institute in Russia
Knightsbridge University in England with a doctorate in applications of physics in medicine
Naturopathic degree by examination and advanced standing from the Southern College of Naturopathic Medicine

I think Knightsbridge is unaccredited, but I'm not sure.

Would you trust your health to this person?

You give your own location as California. Is this "naturopath" practicing in California?

If so, you need to take a look at the California Business and Professions Code.

    http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=bpc&codebody=&hits=20

Scroll way down to Chapter 8.2, the Naturopathic Doctors Act.

You will see that naturopaths need to be licensed in California and that in order to be licensed, they must be a graduate of a naturopathic school with recognized accreditation, among other requirements.

I'm not familiar with Southern College of Naturopathic Medicine, but I'd guess that if your "naturopath" is practicing in California, he may well be practicing without a license.

I wouldn't give this person a cent or accept treatment from him until the situation was clarified. If he is practicing in California, you probably need to consult California's Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine.

Frankly, even if he turns out to be licensed (unlikely), I would never personally accept treatment from anyone who is proud of a Knightsbridge degree.

    Bill,
Thank you for the reply. This person is actually located in Texas (I spend a lot of time there), and was brought up by an old coworker of mine that I have stayed friends with.

The Knightsbridge thing struck me as odd too. I don't think I'll ever go to them, particularly since they use the Knightsbridge Phd to call themselves Dr., which I think they're doing to mislead (letting people conclude erroneously) that it is a medical dr.

    Thanks for the response!

Southern is a fake. I had a long discussion with the folks at the Arkansas AG's office some time ago about their work in getting it shut down. Apparently they were offering a Ph.D. for TWO WEEKS of classes (10am-2pm M-F) in which, among other things, they were teaching their students to administer IVs.

Even a phlebotomist (person who takes blood for blood tests) has to have more schooling than this.

    So.... stay faaaaar away.

    Thanks

    Chip,
I was curious about what you wrote, and looked up the website. Then I did a little more research and found out that Southern still exists, it just has a new storefront now:

Thought you might want to know.
