    All,

With the first week of football wrapped up… anyone want to go out on a limb and make a Super Bowl predication?

OK… I’ll stick my neck out and predict that Janet Jackson won’t be invited to do the half-time performance :D

    Cheers,
    Tony

P.S. I'm still recovering from that Ravens/Browns game... sometimes its hard to be a fan.

I think it may be more wishful thinking rather than a prediction, but the Philadelphia Eagles look like they have a strong shot. With an all-pro receiver like Terrell Owens, QB Donovan McNabb finally has a target to throw too. If the key players manage to stay healthy throughout the season, Philly might see its first Super Bowl in 24 years.

Predication is sort of like a prediction… but with style. ;)

    Tony,

I'll make a prediction that Green Bay will be Super Bowl champs predicated on Brett Favre :D

The Patriots aren't the patsies any longer. They are as close to a dynasty that football has right now, and in the era of salary caps and free-agency, that's big.

(That Patriots are so good that Bruce ought to be investigating them...)

College? It would have to be either Boise State (they play on a blue field!) or Fresno State (they beat Washington, then totally demolished K-State). But despite the fact that they can beat any team in the country, these teams will never appear in a BCS bowl. (Not cool enough.)

Perhaps the best college football game of the year will be when these two teams meet in WAC competition. The irresistable force and the immovable object. But national TV probably won't even show it.

High school? De la Salle lost a game!!!! They hadn't lost a football game in 13 years!!! Their last loss was to the Neanderthals.

My heart and my love will always be with the Dallas Cowboys. Turnovers killed us against Minnesota. I would watch out for them. ( Minnesota, that is) Philadelphia is really strong. New England , Denver and Indianapolis in the AFC. It is really going to be a year. Maybe my Cowboys can make it to the second round.

Never mind all those professionals. Berkeley makes the top ten for the first time since 1893 or something. They could go all the way to BCS. On the other hand, they've got to get past those Mississippians who just beat Nebraska first.

John Bear, who promises he isn't writing
    essays for the team.

De La Salle lost their second game too. They have returned to the world of the mortals.

Hopes are high for Cal-Berkeley. They were ranked 12th the last time I checked. Being a fan of the Bears has taught me the meaning of the word disappointment, however. The present good fortune can only end badly - probably with coach Tedford packing his bags and moving on at the end of the year. :(

Cal has a decent football team?

    What a sad sad day.

    Bring back Tom Holmoe.

    NFL - Denver over Washington

NCAA - Oklahoma (of course) over Miami

Oklahoma? Oklahoma? You gotta get past us......:) It may be a long year in Aggieland. I just hope that Texas A&M has 7 victories. The real test for Oklahoma will be with Texas. That has the makings of a great game.

I liked the Baltimore team that showed up against Pittsburgh a lot better than the one that showed up last week against Cleveland. If they can stay injury free (both Heap and Sanders hurt yesterday) and learn to keep their helmets on after big plays (not one but two un-sportsmanlike penalties for removing helmets), then maybe they can make the playoffs.

    Cheers,
    Tony

Super Bowl - Patriots over the Eagles.

As Bill mentioned, the Pats are so good this year that it's almost not fair. The only weaknesses from last year (running back & punter) have been more than addressed with Corey Dillon and Josh Miller.

Not only do I think the Pats will break the Dolphins' consecutive win record in 2 weeks, I think they may well go 16-0 or 15-1.

And after Fresno State beats up on Boise next week, then it will be the Bulldogs standing all alone.

Now, if they can just get past the fact that you can't just win the big ones, and yes, you actually have to win the little ones as well.

NFL = Atlanta Falcons over Indianapolis Colts. Michael Vick stays healthy and runs Michael Vick style west coast offense. Colts finally get by Patriots, but Manning can't win the big game.

CFL = Georgia Bulldogs over Texas Longhorns. USC and Miami upset late in the season to knock them out. Others teams that might surprise Virginia, Boston College, Fresno State, and Auburn.

I saw the heading 'Football Season' and thought it was about a game of football, i.e., propelling a ball with the use of a foot, hence 'foot' ball (get it?).

Instead, it is an animated thread about a game where a ball is propelled almost entirely by hand! It should be called 'handball'.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world (yes, almost ALL of it) plays football... Even the French on tv have started to call it 'Le foot' (though not in Quebec where they call the traffic sign that appears in France everywhere as 'Stop' by its strict French name of 'Arrette').

I am pleased to see France succumbing to the power of the clarity of English; if only our North American cousins would stop murdering our common language.

THE ATLANTA FALCONS!!! LOL Why don't you say the Miami Dolphins while your at it.

NFL: I was thinking Green Bay had a good chance until I saw them yesterday. But I think it will be Philadelphia or Minnesota vs New England. New England loses either way.

NCAA: It will be USC against Oklahoma. The winner of the Fresno State/ Boise State game will go undefeated and will be in a BCS game.

No, Dolphins probably couldn't beat the Hurricanes

Have you watched the last two Atlanta games? You know, the ones that counted. Michael Vick is a bad dude and defenses don't know what to do with him when he plays his game. The problem is everybody wants to turn him into something he is not. If they let him play his game and build around that they may win it all.

Patriots are the best team in the NFL right now, but there are teams that have really improved. Look for the Jets, Bengals, and Vikings to have very good seasons.
