Due to the entity known as SRU we frequently hear mention of Liberia, Liberian accreditation, etc. This is a story regarding a real university in Liberia. http://allafrica.com/stories/200409090654.html Jack
It's too easy to criticize the follow-up story below based on grammar, etc. It was obviously written/translated by a person with imperfect English. Read for content. http://allafrica.com/stories/200409100288.html While you're at it, go to the allafrica.com website and click on the "education" link in the left margin. It gives stories about the problems/successes in education throughout Africa. I guarantee that if you read these stories once per week for a month then you'll have a new perspective on education (not to mention, life). Sorry, it's the Social Worker in me. Jack
Thanks, Jack. All I would add is that whatever its massive problems, UL is a legitimate university, if badly wounded by the horrors of the last 14 years. I appreciate the writer's evident moral zeal. The only thing I would care to point out is that there are many things worse than the old Americo-Liberian oligarchical government--and that Liberia has experienced almost all of them since its horrific overthrow.
