I'm in Florida and man does this look bad. People are pouring out of South Florida like I haven't seen since the Cuban Missle Crisis. All our Guardsmen have been called up. I think Florida may finally get that cross-Florida barge canal it always wanted.

I live in north Florida and I am happy that it does not look like we be affected. I feel bad everyone south of Melbourne.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale and it wasn't too bad. We lost power for two days and the phone for three, and we're about a mile from the ocean.

    Now here comes Hurricane Ivan....

Fortunately this one was fairly mild down here. Lost a couple of small trees at my house in Broward. Was really surprised when I visited my condo in Palm Beach Gardens. Very little damage and the power was restored yesterday (Mon).

Will go up this weekend to check out my holdings in Palm Bay but since they are just vacant lots I am not too worried.

    Now watching Ivan:

Stay safe. The high pressure ridge that is saving our bacon( Texas Gulf Coast) is steering systems your way. It might not hit Florida. The jury is still out. The high pressure ridge may weaken and the steering currents weaken as well.

    Ivan the Terrible

We'll see. The projections don't look good for Florida in general and the Keys are already evacuating.

I feel for Jamaica and the Caymans since they're going to get it before we do. And really feel for Grenada, the few photos I've seen from there so far shows they really got flattened.

    Steve,
I agree with you. According to Dr Steve Lyons of the Weather Channel, people in Mobile, Alabama...even New Orleans should really watch this. We( Houston) are not totally out of the realm of possibility on this( Example, last year Hurricane Claudette hit us and it orginally was supposed to hit Brownsville Texas.) Hurricanes are fickle things. Just because we have great computer software( SHIPS,BAM, etc) doesnt mean it is 100 percent correct. So just hold out hope for the best.. Jamaica is in for an almost direct hit. Yikes.
