if it's an urban legend, I can't defend it but I recieved a follow up from the Wall Street Journal (a couple of weeks ago) advising me that the couple that "experienced" this were going to be interviewed by CNN/CSPAN (I forgot which) so they could get their story out to the public...so if they spoofed me, it was more than me that was fooled
That article aside, I still think that's a valid question. Let me give you a personal story: My wife worked for JCPenneys a year ago. She called me at home and she was hysterical because a group of Mid-Eastern men were walking around the store taking pictures (not of the merchandise-- but of the structure). She and her co-workers approached the store security who advised that they were watching the men and that they didn't quite know what to do (because they were afraid that if they said/did anything it would seem discriminatory). The sales staff asked the men to leave because they were not comfortable with them walking around with their video recorders --of course they didn't (and they stayed in the store for hours) but...this continued every other day for 2 weeks. Growing up in the U.S. I know that I could never get away with doing something like that...I've seen too many African Americans chased out of stores for "loitering" to believe that the store/mall security were anything other than being extremely P.C. I know of other instances as well...what do you have to say to that, Khan? You can't write that off as an Urban legend.
