Thank you for this, bo79. Our wheaten terrier had her last Eukanuba meal about a year ago. As long as there was a viable choice, we were glad to move on.

Even though PETA is the extreme entity of the animal rights movement, thank you for this. Even extremism, at times, has it merits.

We try to pay attention to the corporate behavior of companies we buy from, but it is tough when we don't like a supplier and there are few alternatives.

On the other hand (are ya listening, Bruce) during the 10 years we lived very rurally in Mendocino, we bought our firewood from Thomas Loop, a man who was a real right-wing activist, and also a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. When we were building our home, he brought by some birch wood , and said we could build our bathroom with it -- and start the Birch John Society.

Now I find myself wondering about the politics of the Avoderm company, whose dogfood we now buy. Their website suggests a nice wholesome family-run company, so I guess I won't spend time fretting about their union policy or hiring policies or child care or who they're voting for.

I'll admit to being right-wing, a nice guy, and having a good sense of humor.

However, unless you count my rantings on this relatively obscure discussion site, I wouldn't classify myself as an activist. :D

PETA is far from the extreme of the animal rights movement. A.L.F. makes them look like a church group.

PETA is extreme. Just because ALF is extreme doesn't mean PETA isn't. ALF doesn't corner the market on extremism.

As an example of PETA's extremism, several year's ago during one of their campaigns Peta advertised on billboards with this: "Jeffrey Dahmer liked meat too."

If you think PETA is extreme I certainly don't grudge you that position. However you said they were the extreme. That's hardly the case.

As for the Dahmer thing...that seems like a pretty good retort to people who say "Hitler was a vegetarian." (even though he wasn't.)

Dahmer ate meat. Stalin ate meat. It doesn't seem extreme to me to point that out. :)

    Herr Schicklegruber

He wasn't? William Shirer said he became a vegetarian after the death (suicide?) of the only woman he ever really loved.

    What have you got?

Rynn Berry researched the issue and wrote a book about it titled Hitler: Neither Vegetarian nor Animal Lover.

One could argue that he was a ham-o, sausage-o vegetarian if they were inclined to do so.

I had heard something along this line before, though not to this extent. We have never bought IAMS and will continue to feed our pet NUTRO MAX.

We feed both our cat and dog wellness. Its made from human grade foods, and is baked rather than extruded.

Really. Somewhere I have a picture of the mustachio'd one "relaxing with his dogs". Neither the dogs nor H. look very relaxed. Maybe there's a reason?

Seems like an odd conceit to sell to the Germans, though. Vegetarianism, I mean.

    Alsatians, of course.

For those interested in getting involved in the boycott on Procter & Gamble, I am posting a link where you can find a full list of brands made by Procter & Gamble, including Iams. I myself have not only stopped feeding my pet Iams since I got involved in this protest, but I have also stopped using Vidal Sasson shampoo and styling products, and Olay face wash.

Since we are on the topic of PETA, I thought I would share with the group one of my favorite video clips from petatv.com. In this film BUSH is attacked my a PETA member well campaining and really made to look like the complete idiot that he is.

You obviously don't get it. The meat referred to here is HUMAN FLESH as Dahmer was a cannibal!

He didn't look like an idiot to me.

As a matter of fact, he acted a lot more calmly than I would have, if someone had just dumped a ton of animal s*** in front of me.

While some of the goals of PETA are admirable, they really are nothing more than a low-grade domestic terrorist organization.

Well, I guess I can thank the good lord that you're here to show me the light. :)
OK...so how is it extreme to point out the fact that this meat eater (Dahmer) ate human meat? The distinction between meat eater and cannibal is only a matter of degree, isn't it?
