I have enrolled in Mountain State this semester after taking the summer off. In the last couple of weeks I have been searching schools again looking at many different degree programs using online search engines with many different keywords. I have learned that it is very easy to get snagged by diploma mills or substandard unaccredited schools.

I have been a partipating member of degreeinfo on a regular basis for quite a while now, and though I do not read anywhere near every thread or post I think I scan over at least 30% or so. When I first started learning about diploma mills and substandard unaccredited schools I did not know anything about accreditation, approval, etc. However, after being around here I feel like I know a lot about it. Still, during my searches I found myself on school sites that I have never heard of that almost had me convinced that they were a legitimate school offering what I was interested in until I kept digging. These schools are very clever, and even knowing all that I know now through the school costly experience, I have found that it would be easy to bite the hook again.

I hope that some of the regulars will take it a little easier on some of the newbies that stumble in here to learn that they were snagged. Sometimes it takes time to come to terms with it, and it is also easy to do especially for those that do not know how to determine the legitimacy of a school. I hope we continue to educate the ones that were duped, and even the co-conspirators that do not want to come to terms with the fact that their school is not what it should be.

I think most of the newbies are treated with respect when they pose honest questions, its just very hard to pick through the shills in the first instance. Nonetheless, I totally agree with you. Some of the printed literature I have seen and websites created by notorious mills is simply stunning.

    Cheers,
