I had this question asked today and thought I would pose it to some of our friends from the north: How many Canadian credits equal 3 U.S. credits? (If that question even works) Tom Nixon
Canadian university/college works on the unit system. I was told 2 CA units equals 3 US credit - semester hours. Perhaps someone in Canada can confirm that. Daisy
Not aware of such things but I do like it. I am only familiar with western Canadian universities and we have two 3 1/2 month terms, have 15 hours of classes weekly, take 5 courses per term, and end up with 30 credits. Just like the US.
Dennis, My cousin was enrolled in a technical program at a college - east coast Canada. He had courses worth .66 unit per semester ??? I've never heard of such a thing! When he went to University, it was under the same units/credits system as the US. Go figure... hey! Daisy
I agree with Dennis. In Ontario, universities have 3 1/2 month terms with are equal to 30 credits (based on 5 courses per term).
Just a clarification: in Ontario, you take 5 courses each term. A term that lasts 16 weeks. (The usual North American September to December, January to April, and summer terms, if offered) Each course is usually three contact hours per week, (in the US, a 3 credit course) For a 3 year bachelors, this equates to a 30 course or 90 credit degree. For the 4 year degree, 40 courses or 120 credits. Under the separation of powers in Canada's constitution, education is soley a provincial responsibility, so each province sets their own point scheme for university course work. If you look at the number of contact hours per week and the number of weeks for the course, you should be able to map onto other credit value systems. Best wishes----Jim
We use the same credit system as the US. 3 american credits are the same as 3 canadian. Same in Quebec
Nine. Six to hold the ladder and three to... uh... er... wait a minute. You're serious aren't you? Never mind.
