I'm still catching-up on threads because of my involuntary DNC stint, but I noticed that Tom Head has re-joined us.

Welcome back, buddy! You've been sorely missed, and I look forward to your contributions in the future!

I think he came back to deprogram your corrupt conservative mind before the election! :D That is, of course, if you were not converted at the convention.

Don't worry! Help is on the way for Bruce, and all the other conservatives on this board....

    Bruce,

Speaking diplomatically, what did you learn about the convention?
Did you come away with more or less respect for the Democrats? You know that I am one, but I would love to hear your comments from a party that did not have a stake. Glad you are back and thank you for being cordial and honest with me.

Well Bruce, I bet you'll treasure that 8x10 autographed color photo of the "Johns." Pun intended!

Jimmy Clifton: "Well Bruce, I bet you'll treasure that 8x10 autographed color photo of the 'Johns.'"

    J. Bear: Yes, he can hang it next to the one of disgraced Illinois Republican candidate Jack Ryan. Oh, wait, you meant the other kind of 'Johns.'

Thanks, dude--it's great to be back! (Sorry for not responding sooner--I think I was too busy arguing politics to spot the thread!)

Sometime soon I'm going to have to tell you about my new writing project--what I can say in public is that it's a huge (>200K words) general reference title in the history of criminal justice, and that I'm co-writing it with an academic for a likely 2006 publication. Reading up on Lawrence Friedman and Samuel Walker and exploring this new and challenging, but thoroughly fascinating, area of study. If you have any favorite authors/books in this area, I'd love to hear about them.

What have you been up to? From the looks of things, the DNC work was pandaemonium--I remember reading some of the newspaper articles about it and realizing that maybe there are some benefits to being in a politically dull part of the country. (Most exciting political event that happens down here is the Neshoba County Fair...)

    Cheers,

My feelings about the Democratic Party itself are unchanged....it's been highjacked by the far left and now no longer even resembles the party of FDR and Truman.

As for the convention-goers themselves, with a few exceptions, they were fantastic. We had few problems with them, although the words "don't you know who I am" were uttered a few times. :D

One rather portly delegate liked Boston so much that he refused to leave the Fleet Center at the end of the night, and ended up sitting on a police officer's hand, injuring him.

The only real problem, if you can call it that, was with the protesters. There was a minor skirmish with them on, I think, Day 3, but it wasn't necessary to call in the tactical units that were on stand-by.

I had predicted either a terrorist attack or a riot, but I'm pleased that I was wrong. Security was super-tight, and I think shutting down Route 93 at night was a bit of overkill.

I hope the RNC goes this smoothly in NYC.
