How much did your Masters degree cost? Mine was in criminology from the University of South Florida and it cost us about 9k in 2003, but the price went up immediately after we graduated and it now cost about 12k.
My MA in history at North Carolina Central cost me 5k. It was pretty cheap back then. Now it is in the 12 k range.
Mine is costing me about $4,800 + the $3,600 or so in transfer credits I was able to post to my current school. This is with Amberton University, which has a very nice (and often un-noticed) program for working adults to get a variety of Masters degrees ranging from Counseling, Professional Development, to an MBA.
My MS-ITM from TUI cost $6,750 with the military discount. Out of pocket it cost me $1,125 because my company has a "6 credit per semester limit".
Between the U of London fees and the Law Tutors Online fees, my LL.M. will end up costing me about 3,000 UK pounds exclusive of textbooks. As the dollar falls, this is getting worse and worse. I've paid about 2,000 pounds thus far.
When I did my M.A. at Vermont College (then part of Norwich University), it had an overall program fee (tuition) of $5,800 plus a colloquium fee of $150. That was in 1988-89, when it was a 30-semester hour program. Today, the now 36-semester hour program at V.C. (which is now part of Union Institute & University) costs over $17,000 - based on tuition of $5,590 for each of three semesters, an annual technology fee of $100, and colloquium fee of $300.00. The total is based on three semesters of 12 credits; for psychology and counseling majors, who would likely take at least a 48-credit program, the cost would obviously be much higher. The colloquium was optional when I was enrolled, but is now a requirement. However, the fee includes both the programs and room and board (with a cafeteria run by the New England Culinary Institute), still making it a vacation that's downright cheap. In fact, I attended several colloquia as an alumnus just for the cheap vacation.
Approximately $5500, in state tuition, Florida State University, 95-97. Wish I could be so lucky with my Ph.D. . . Cheers, Adrienne
About $12K (18 months at Goddard College). Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, not as good a value as the education I got from the University of Maryland (Bach) or the Union Institute (Ph.D.). Cheers, Tony Maranto
Tony, that's a good point. Although my Ph.D. will end up costing about 9 times as much as my master's, I think the quality of my education at Capella is far better than what I got at FSU, truth be told. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny! Cheers, Adrienne
About $16,000, of which my employer was kind enough to pay for 80% of it. MBA, Baker University, Baldwin Kansas, 1995
My first master's degree (in linguistics) at California State University, Fresno, cost about $2500. The cost of my second one (in school counseling) at the University of West Alabama has yet to be determined, but somewhere around $8000. Tom Nixon
Masters degrees are less expensive than what I anticipated. Two clowns said that they paid in excess of 40k. Riiiiiight.
MY MA is about $8500 but my employer is picking up the tab so my cost is really only about $500 in books.
I was very fortunate to get locked into my Masters program at NCU prior to the increase. My program will run $8640.00 + Books.
I think my first one (UW in the early 80's) cost around $ 3000. My second one (EBS MBA in 2000) cost around $ 7500.
