Zimbabwe's white minorities are to be resettled in Nigeria soon. It's a shame that this is happening while Robert Mugabe is the President of Zimbabwe. The story is here.
I expect that if there is an attempt to create a "final solution" by cleansing Zimbabwe of whites once and for all, then most of the refugees would end up in the US, EU, Australia, Canada and so on. Some of them would just go over the border into South Africa as well. But this Nigerian initiative sounds like a good idea. It's attractive to the white Zim farmers who currently stand to lose everything (if they haven't already), and it will help Nigeria if these farmers can help the surrounding Nigerian farmers become more efficient. My understanding is that the white Zimbabwe farmers once had a reputation for being very good in a technical agriculture sense.
Not all shame: Zim's shame, Nigeria's magnanimity. The government of Botswana made a similar offer some time ago, citing Botswana's need for ag infrastructure help in light of the AIDS devastation and the white Zimbabweans' need for a safe and permanent haven. It is also gratifying that, as president of the other African continental power, the Nigerian president does not have his thumb in his ... with regard to the saintly Mr Mugabe. This compared favorably to our own government's heartless expulsion of 300 Montserratians under the asinine guise of homeland security (as thousands flood in from nations that hate us).
