    I can provide one DL example that is related to this article. For a while, Nova Southeastern's business school allowed students to submit a portfolio in place of taking the GMAT. After a while, they decided to shift back - seemingly because the portfolio approach didn't do the job they were looking for.

    I do appreciate the topic - to try to reduce one's learning to an objective test seems a shame. There are so many things that are hard to test in multiple choice exams - artistic endeavors, involved processes, etc. come to mind.

    But the testing/grading regime is what they always come back to when the alternatives come up short. I've no love for that regime, or for school, but it seems to work best.
