I did buy this book, but found the author to be too pedantic for my tastes. For exampl: yes it should be "men's room" but "mens room" is not sufficiently different to cause problems. She obviously believes grammar is prescriptive not descriptive.
While I would agree, the book is pedantic (that is sort of the point); but if you enjoy dry humor and British precision, it’s a fun read. Cheers, Tony Maranto P.S. I’ve been on a private crusade for the last seven years to insert commas before the final “and” in a listing sentence in Army correspondence. I think that someone at the Pentagon once calculated how much typewriter ribbon could be saved by enforcing the “fist, second and third” rule instead of “first, second, and third”. However, since electrons are cheap, I blatantly insert the final comma and consequences be dammed. Being a rebel isn’t always easy.
