'Godfather' Star Marlon Brando Dies at 80 By ANTHONY BREZNICAN, AP Entertainment Writer LOS ANGELES - Marlon Brando (news), who revolutionized Hollywood's image of a leading man playing street-tough, emotionally raw characters in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "On the Waterfront" and then revived his career a generation later as the definitive Mafia don in "The Godfather," died at 80. <copyrighted material removed & post moved to OT forum by moderator>
It is inappropriate to copy the entire text (or a large portion) of a copyrighted article. Better to just give a brief synopsis and/or comment, then provide a link. Also, it is OT for this thread.
I continue to be amazed at how many people feel the need to post a major story - whether it be about war, politics, or Brando - on this forum at all. It presumes that no one in this forum reads newspapers, watches CNN, catches a local newscast, or has other means of gleaning the day's news. I merely presume that everyone knows about these things already. And if they don't, I feel no need to make them aware of things abot which they may not give a proverbial rat's ass. But, for the sake of any "ignorami" on the forum, Bush is still the President. And, by the way, Brando is still dead.
Posting the story to this forum is a way to allow people to comment/debate etc. in one place on a particular current event.
Thank you Bob. However, if I posted this thread under the wrong heading, I apologize, I was very tired when I was online yeaterday.
Dying in 3's I will use this opportunity to bring up an interesting (fascinating) observation. Has anyone noticed how all the "Greats" are dying in three's? Let's see, last year- Bob Hope, Kathrine Hepburn, and somesuch other I don't remember. Now- Ronald Reagan, Ray Charles, Marlow Brando (spelling?). Year before last, I remember there were a couple Greats who died, but for the life of me I can't remember who. This is starting to get weird. Let's see what the next batch consists of. JLo, Rush Limbaugh, and Kerry??? hehe Steven ______________ You're just jealous cause The little green men Don't talk to you.
Heard many on t.v. state Brando was the greatest actor of all time. I disagree; I never liked Brando. James Dean would have toppled him had he lived. Never liked Dean either, BTW. This brings up a question about who the greatest actor of all time is or was. I think two come to mind for me and I think they are the most underrated actors of all time: Victor Mature and Lon Chaney, Jr. Perhaps the most overrated actor was John Wayne. One of the all-time greats was Gregory Peck. Best actress of all time? Barbara Stanwyck, hands down. She was superb in Double Indemnity as was Fred McMurray (perhaps another underrated actor).
