Sick bastards - what sick bastards to kill a non-combatant. Someone who is contributing to the Saudi government. Before all of you neo-cons and ultra lefties get on the political bandwagen, this has nothing to do with anything except for the killing of an innocent human being. Of course the US government has committed crimes (albeit they always say "sorry" - which for the family of the dead person means nothing - and means even less to the person killed).

I hope the Saudi government catches these douchbags and bring them out into a public square for beheading. Make them lie face foward so they can see the dull hatchet hit them several times as they shriek in pain. Nothing gets the message across better than the shear pain of death (and yes, I have seen someone die rather painfully).

Call me sick, call me vengeful, call me a bastard. But payback is the only way you can keep crap like this in check.

Just my two... what is your opinion

Actually, Mr. Engineer, I don't particularly care if you wish to be a sick, vengeful bastard, pathetically using a higher education forum to vent your rants in a perverse exercise of self-catharsis (especially since way over 50% of your posts have nothing to do with higher education).

But could you at least spell correctly as you rant? Douchebags has an "e" in it. And you'd like the offenders to experience the sheer, not shear, pain of death. Which would be by an ax or axe, not a hatchet.

But you asked for the 2¢ of others . . . Here's mine: This is an education board. When both members and moderators begin to shove their opinions down others' throats, it's time for the Off-Topic Discussions forum to go. As for your opinions, I just don't give a fuck, although I do enjoy making fun of your atrocious spelling. :D

Granted, there are incidents in the sphere of current events that are tragic. But the reaction of some wazoos who think their pontifications matter is hysterical.

Ah, well . . . think I'll go make some popcorn and watch the Nick Berg video.

Simple solution Steve, if you do not want to read about something in the "Off Topic" do not click on the thread.

Let the fella rant. I was pissed off when I read this as well. I came in to the office to do my mid-term and saw this on the net. Drudgereport.com has the pictures. It never seems to amaze me the self important left wingers hiding behind the mask of the educational 'elite'. I'm not a 'senior member' (I'm trembling) but didn't he post this to the so-called off topic board? And making fun of someone's spelling? potato head! Get a life. I know you think you are being funny but your comment on the other beheading video was way out of line. I'll assume that this war hasn't affected you personnally other than your whining about gas prices. Go ahead and argue 'moral equivallancy' and the rest of the predictable liberal bullcrap. I'm military and I haven't seen my family in 9 months. I (and more importantly my family) will continue to do what we do and make sacrafices so pie boys like you can continue to have the freedom to espouse your self gratifying crap.

I appreciate that. Thank you. I was ranting myself a bit and wouldn't normally bring up being military or coming across like a gloryhound. My bad. That guy just torqued my meat with his stupidity. You know what they say though - He who angers you controls you - So I'm all good now :)

Whatever floats your boat Steve. If all you can do is make fun of is my spelling, then I guess I am doing pretty good. I was wondering how you would feel if the person being beheaded was your wife, daughter, or son. My best friend is in Baghdad right now and everytime I hear about an explosion outside of the Kurdish compound, I worry about him.

    Let's Surrender!

I know what we do! Let's call the UN in and negotiate! Yeah, that always works. Michael Moore.. let's send him in with Jesse Jackson (where is that ole pimp been hidin' lately?) and Chirac and just, well, surrender! Yeah, that's the ticket. Oh, take that French Looking Kerry with you when you go to negotiate.

It's my understanding that the Johnson captors had demands that included releasing a list of prisoners.

If I were in charge of such things, I would examine the list, and determine if any of the people on the list were captured in civilian clothing (which I assume most, if not all, were). That makes them spies, and thus fair game for summary execution.

As soon as it was determined that Johnson was dead, I'd line up the spies and have them executed by firing squad, videotaping the event to show the Johnson captors.

That's how you deal with terrorists.

    Duh.
    What did I ask?
Did I ask "does anybody know for what "neo-con" is an abbreviation?"
    No.
Did you really think that I didn't understand the abbreviation?
    What I asked was:
"Anybody know for what neo-con is a code word?"

I think that terrorism is really internet discussion group flaming, taken out into real life and put on steroids. It's venting. The tragedy is that good people have to die so that other people can express their frustration. That makes terrorism probably the ultimate expression of self-centeredness.

In the case of these throat cuttings of captives, the whole point is to get on TV and outrage the West. The goal is to make us angry, make us feel discomfort, to make us hurt.

But while making the West show emotion gives the perpetrators the illusion that something's being accomplished, in reality the whole thing is an expression of frustration that nothing is.

And pretty clearly, a savage counter response by us would be no different. It would be an expression of our own frustration and impotence.

Sane people everywhere should do everything possible to reduce vulnerabilities and work determinedly to head off threats. Then they need to continue on as impurturbably as possible.

The most threatening aspect of the West to everything that al Qaida stands for isn't our jets and our bombs. It isn't our ability to kill more savagely than they do.

What they most fear about us are our music videos. Our t-shirts. Our Hollywood films.

And ultimately the science and technology that offers traditional societies goodies that they simply can't refuse, but which carry with them a rationalist secular worldview that's profoundly corrosive to traditional religion-centered outlooks.

The kind of traditional medieval society that we saw in Taliban Afghanistan is on the ropes. They know it. That's why they hate us so much. They hate the fact that when they grasp tightly to things that are indisputably their own, it's all so sordid and inferior. They hate the fact that all the more desirable alternatives imply the adoption of ways of thinking and of being that are foreign to their whole culture, to the things that they believe in most passionately.

They feel trapped. They feel bitter. They feel desperate. They strike out.

The West has been fighting that same struggle internally, though usually less violently, for many centuries now. We even see echoes of it right here on Degreeinfo, in the endless politico-religion discussions. But with us, the rising secular challengers to medieval ways of thought are native and internal to our own culture. They don't demand that we embrace foreign ways and cease to be ourselves.

So bottom line: If we want to get revenge for these appalling crimes, our best course is to carry on as unperturbably as possible. We are already winning. That's precisely what the problem is.

Just stay cool, stay safe, and beam their kids some more hot sexy music videos. That's where the damage is being done.

I trust that you're not an officer, Matt. If you were, you'd probably be photographing piles of naked Iraqui prisoners.

Ah, but seriously, folks, it is sooooooooooo easy to push the buttons of the neo-cons on this board. In fact, most don't even qualify as neo-cons, merely as right-wingers. (Even neo-cons have some brains. Besides, some of them are hot looking and good in bed.)

But to presume that the rest of us are "self important left wingers?" I guess that's what you reach for when you don't have a real argument. :D

As for correcting spelling errors, that's a "self important left winger" technique for pissing you guys off. And it obviously works. Besides, this is a higher education board - get used to it, buddy. The writer I critiqued is about to enter a graduate program - it's about time he (and you) learned how to spell correctly. (At least he was only a misspeller. Your grammar needs a lot of improvement.)

So far, Matt, your posts are 100% off-topic. And learn to do your research - until you get to know me better, it's Doctor self important left winger to you.

By the way, welcome to degreeinfo.com. In time, you may get to move to the front of the class. Now get back to your unit and defend my liberal ass. :D

  16. Mr. Dayson, your post is one of the most profound and on target analyses of the situation that I'm seen for quite some time. Excellent thinking - I do believe you are correct.

I'll take a guess. Is it, for some strange, unexplainable reason, a code word for anti-Semitism? I am guessing this because many in the Neo-Conservative movement are Jews who used to be "liberals."

Wow. That was good. I completely agree and I wish more people believed it. Dumping our freedoms and behaving like jackals is called losing.
