Capella has an article about how they are teaming with Walmart to be the preferred provider of education to all the employees and families.

An intriguing idea: how about expanding this option to anyone who want's higher education. Essentially, using Walmart as a portal for distance learning delivery.

    Just a thought.

Capella has this type of agreement with several companies .(including at least one with a Fortune 20 company that is not public yet as far as I know). With all the bad press about Wallmart recently I commend them for offering educational opportunities to their employess.

Well - seeing how WalMart sucks and how much crap they sell from third world countries without guilt (I never shop at WallyMart - they are corporate socialism at its worst - plus they Blue uniforms look silly - just like the Orange uniforms at Homeboy Depot), I would be scared to have WalMarts name on an actual degree. Could it be taken seriously - probably not!

Wal Mart has continued to decline ever since the death of Sam Walton.

My wife has been an employee of W-M for 13 years. Today she told the Division Manager she will be taking off a week, beginning next week, for surgery and recovery.

Her Division Manager told her she should have waited until AFTER inventory to schedule her surgery! W-M used to care about its employees.

Anyway, back to the subject matter. My wife gets the W-M newsletter and there are always articles in them about the Capella arrangement.

Hey, if Wal-Mart does not work out, they can always team up with K-Mart were you can get the "Blue Light Special" degree.

The "unaccredited" degree for $10.00 or the "accredited" degree for only a $1.99 more, plus tax!!

My wife has a friend who works for WalMart.com. She said that during an executive presentation in Arkansas, the VP mentioned god and Jesus more than a few dozen times during the sermon (err, presentation). -- I guess WalMart execs think WalMart is a church (sounds a lot like the Amway scam).

Sorry about your wife - that blows. I would find another job.

I don't think they'll miss you lost sales. They may be the most successful company in the past 25 years (Microsoft excepted.)

Would you rather employees in third world countries have no jobs at all?

Socialism at its worst? An argument could be made for capitalism at its worst but socialism?

My aunt was a secretary for Walmart in the '70s and '80s and retired with a couple of million dollars.

I can't think of a less respected RA MBA program than CSDH. Capella is much more respected. Sam Walton didn't need an MBA.

I am glad she made millions. It must have been off the stock price which has NOTHING to do with the company itself. Despite what WalMart execs have been trying to shove down the publics throats through misleading PR commercials, they are among the most litigated of American companies. If they didn't hold the political clout, I can guarantee the execs would be taken out in handcuffs for their many labor law violations. Their low wages and non-benefits have hurt the American middle class more than anything else. That is why I refuse to shop there. It personally warms my heart each and every time a major lawsuit is won against WalMart. It takes money directly out of the Walton families pocket. (BTW: Most people on par with Sam Walton don't have their MBA's silly - and MBA isn't a requirement for being a good business person)

Your comment about CSUDH is completely nonsensical. Speaking to a few HR execs in the Valley, most know and recognize California State University. Being in the CSU system, their requirements are exactly the same as all CSU's. (Hayward, Chico, SLO, etc..) Of course not on par with Stanford, Yale, SCU, but definitely as good as Capella (which most people around here have never heard of), and better than Keller and UoP.

Ten Speed has published a splendid (and very successful) book called How Wal-Mart is Destroying America (and the World), written by an extremely angry and feisty 83-year-old in Texas.

One of the author's many laments is that Mister Sam faithfully promised that Wal-Mart would never sell alcohol, and would never open on Sunday before church. Both policies faded away during his lifetime.

One of my favorite stories, discovered when doing my research on complaining, was the man who left his car at Wal-Mart for tires. An employee stole his car, and pretty well destroyed it driving into a tree. Wal-Mart denied any responsibility because the employee was on his lunch hour when he stole it.

  12. Well, at least that employee wasn't guilty of time theft. He did his grand theft auto while off the clock.
