German Rev. with ordination and D.D. from the Universal Life Church . How do you feel about Rev. who got a degree and ordination fromULC ?
Why not? The ULC allows members to believe whatever they want as long as it doesn't harm anyone. I'm sure he qualifies.
Maybe someone should tell him not to give up his full time job as an ice cream scooper at Baskin & Robins.
Did the ULC Doctor of Divinity curriculum include coursework in spelling? Seriously, why would you guys want to post something like this. You know how Bill Dayson feels about ULC ordination.........
I think that unless some method exists of credibly and reliably distinguishing between truth and falsity in religion, claims of expertise in transcendent matters are questionable by their very nature. That implies that it's probably impossible to discover any formal criterion for legitimate religious practitioners that isn't circular and religion-specific. I don't reject the possibility of free-lance religious practitioners, following their own religious intuitions outside any formal religious system. Finally, if the government seeks to be religion-neutral, it can't very well put itself in the position of specifying the proper preparation for clergymen.
I recently aided in a search to determine who could perform marriages in California. It turned out that some counties will allow persons ordained by ULC to perform weddings. In my county (Riverside) almost anyone can perform weddings by getting a one day "license".
Funny, he only mentions his "Doctor" in the English resume. In Germany nobody knows what a D.D. is, and without the 'Dr.', in front of his name his degree is useless. And if he uses the 'Dr.' only, that would be criminal, with any American Doctoral degree, other than a Ph.D. from universities from Carnegie list. Others Doctoral degrees have to be used in a special notation (original form + university), therefore he should have saved his 25$. I would even think that the notation he used would be illegal. It has to be D.D. (UL Church) at least or someone can think that his degree is an academic degree, what would make it illegal again. After reading his resume, he has not spent a single minute at something a European would call 'university'.
=== I am particularly more concerned when the doctorate is said to be in Christian Theology or Biblical studies. Here , I think, whether one has a graduate level understanding and efficient use of the body of knowledge related to these disciplines is easily measurable. If it were not, then schools could not estimate the entry level skills of applicants to doctoral programs and evaluate the student's progress through coursework and/or dissertation. This Rev , I guess, is not claiming that field of learning as his expertise. But more generally I am unhappy when a doctorate is acquired in any area when the work for that qualification is unequal to that expected in accredited or GAAP schools. It seems that a durative rigor could be employed to justify the curriculm in any doctoral work. I don't think "Religion" of any sort should be excepted from this criterion just because the truthfulness of a religion is not convincing to all. For that reason I'm sad that of a Doctor of Divinity degree in any belief system can be "earned" without going through the rigors normally expected when earning a doctorate.
doctorate acquired, qualification This guy was never on a university and that something like the ULC can give out 'doctorates' is disgusting.
