Individuals who have held Doctor of Divinity Degrees are: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Billy Graham.

The Doctor of Divinity is an earned Degree but it is often awarded as an Honorary Degree.

In my opinion a PhD degree from Harvard is the most prestigious qualification one could aspire to. But I am sure other universities may have equally good degrees.

The Max Plank institute, of course, specializes in the study of the weight-bearing capacity of lumber; i.e.: the max plank.

The Max Planck institute, however, offers many the prestigious qualification in gravitational physics and the like.

Snort. Sorry, I could not resist this. :D

    Most Respected Degrees

Those Ivy League schools are Eastern elitists so forget Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell , Brown, UPenn, Dartmouth and Princeton. :-)

I'll take Berkeley, Stanford and Cal Tech (previously mentioned) and to be international - Oxford, Cambridge and ULondon.

An associates degree from Deep Springs College?

(26 students (male) out there in the remote desert. The school is a ranch and students get free tuition for operating it. They are prohibited from leaving during the term except on ranch business. The students operate the college administration, including hiring the faculty and running the admissions office. Most intense admissions process in the United States. (That little group of students is the school. They are very picky about who the hand it to when they leave.) SATS around 1500. Very cool in an totally intense, almost Zen-like way. This is the kind of experience that changes the rest of your life.)

Yes, John Hopkins University is a small but very prestigious institution. Just a piece of trivia - the writer Gertrude Stein got her MD at Johns Hopkins - don't think she ever practiced medicine after she graduated.

[Referred to her home town of Oakland, California] No offense folks, she lived there a very long time ago and it has changed.

But why go through all of the trouble and expense when you can get a doctorate from a "prestigious non-accredited" university just by answering a spam e-mail message and sending a check?:p

In the field of instructional technology , some of the most respected doctorates are from Indiana, Florida State, Syracuse, Penn State, Arizona State and Utah State (and a few others). I am sure that many other disciplines have their top programs at non-Ivy League schools.

I'm not sure how much I would value words coming from a school such as International Theological University.

Is the D.D. still offered as an academic degree in the U.S. or elsewhere?

Some school in UK still offered D.D. as a higher doctorate.
The other school in South Africa(University of Pretoria) offer D.D. as a research degree.
