    Until today my company would reimburse any course that was required by a degree applicable to your current or potential position within the company. Today I found out the policy wording had been changed to exclude that case and courses would be evaluated course-by-course. That means the courses that I plan on taking this Summer (Gender and Society in Ancient Greece and Music of World Cultures) will most likely not be reimbursable! Arrrrrgh, I can't stand it.

    Recently, my company was taking suggestions for what they could do to improve moral. Do they not understand that its way easier to destroy moral than to build? It will be years before I will forget them snubbing my reimbursement request!

    The policy at my work changed several times throughout my education experience. When a change was made that didn't make sense, I made an appointment and tried to find out why it had been changed. For example, I had to take "Women Studies" as a general ed requirement. They said it was not related to "business" (sounds like your situation too). I took the plan my counselor at school gave me, showing it is required for a Business degree. They had made the change for other reasons (some where taking Karate, or presonal recreation classes and getting reimbursed), so they changed it again, and made exceptions" until it went through that General education was covered.

    I would suggest going in and seeing if they realize what the change has done. It wouldn't hurt. If they do say, in the end, then meant to stop people from getting their degree, then I would bring up the morale issue.

    I had those books for the FSU classes until a few days ago! I cleaned out my bookshelves and pitched them. Dr. Dale Olsen's class is interesting.

    JoAnn,

    use the wording you provided and do the business case. For example;

    if you are a multinational company then certainly any class that would lend itself to the understanding and interfacing with that culture would be a direct or indirect benefit to the company. Use the skills that will serve you as a manager, pursuasion for instance. Being adversarial with you management will not serve your ends.

    It would be a stretch for the course you mention but perhaps the syllabus would lend itself to some portion of the company's mission statement regarding gender/diversity integration within the workplace.

    Failing any progress, find an alternative that will meet both your company and your goals. Keep in mind the objectives of any company and the responsibility to the stake and shareholders. A company is loathe to be a training ground for other employment.

    So far your studies have progressed well as you have posted on this board don't let one bump ruin your otherwise positive posts.

    I'm actually looking forward to an interesting break from my Computer Science classes. I already have the books for Dr. Olsen's class since I signed up for MUH2051 in the Fall but decided to drop it after needing a break due to my strenuous summer semester. (I took 9 hours! For a Summer semester that is just too much.)

    Did you earn your degree from FSU? If so, which one?

    Thanks for your sensible suggestions! But don't worry about me going all postal. It was just my immediate reaction and I needed to vent. The funny thing is that as an in-state student my tuition is peanuts (< $80/semester hr.) Its not much for me and not quite as much for them. If nothing else I'll foot the bill and move on.
