First of all, I had nothing to do with Concordia. That was established after I left the EPC.

Second, why so cruel, Mark? Why so hard-hearted to keep bringing up the past. The atheist I knew was a decent, compassionate, forgiving person.

I addressed all these issues in this post, dated 9/4/03:

Do you enjoy hurting people, Mark? Do you wish for others to constantly remind you of mistakes, stupid decisions, and bad actions of the past?

Come on, Mark, show some heart here.

I regret Jimmy's announced departure, and my role in it. I think he made many positive contributions to DegreeInfo.

If I were in Jimmy's position, I would say: "Yes, I ran degree mills, and I am ashamed. But to discuss my sins is not evil or cruel. It helps me to confront myself, and it helps the world by allowing me to disseminate insight that only a former degree mill owner could have."

Jimmy Clifton, on another board, wrote this about Unk:

You know James, as a Christian I believe in the "just retribution for sin."

I also believe in the "Law of Reciprocity."

God will take care of Janko.

And while, as a human being, part of me wants to see him suffer for his meanness and nastiness, this would wrong and un-Christian so I pray he doesn't.

He is suffering now. He is bitter, sad, pathetic, pitiful, and lonely. Trust me, he is paying for some awful sin (I believe a moral failure.) and that is why he is so embittered.

I would hate to be in his shoes. He is the Silas Marner of our time.

Pray for him, please. Pray that his rotting flesh and diseased mind renew themselves.

Pray for a clean heart. Pray he becomes the man God intends for him to be.

Remember, he is a child of God just like you and me.

He has fallen, but unlike Urkel, he can, with God's help, get up.

This "God will get you for that" kind of talk is disgusting. Talk about being a sanctimonious, hateful, person using God as a weapon against others. It is condescending and insulting.

Wow. More poetry of which I was unaware. Thanks, Rich, for showing more of what was really going on behind the bathos.

I haven't seen any post by Jimmy that was out of line. However, I have to agree with Rich on the "as a Christian" deal. I get tired of people telling me all the time that they are a Christian electrician, or a Christian lawyer, or a Christian doctor. The way I look at it that is something that you do not have to advertise. You do not have to qualify yourself with that. It is just my opinion, and not meant toward Jimmy, but some people use the word Christian to draw favoritism for their cause whether it is in a discussion, or in business.

I do think that Jimmy takes a lot of crap for whatever he has done in the past, and can see where he would get pissed when it gets brought up all the time. We should all act more mature.

As one who seldom enters these discussions, I hestitate to step in here. However, at this point I feel compelled to do so. Do any of you, on either side, realize how outlandish & childish this whole discussion is? This board is supposed to be about distance learning, not schoolyard fights. I would hope the moderators step in to cool this down, before those of us who are interested in education are driven away.

This line, as well as the Douglas dissertation line, never seems to go away entirely ( at least not in the 5 months I've been here), both are very ugly and unbecoming to all parties. The main combatants in both areas have always been kind and helpful to me, thus causing me some real confusion about the whole thing. I too don't understand how it continues to be seen as lively debate in the moderators' eyes. True debate should be allowed, however, so much of the time these threads are vicious and personal even though the combatants themselves usually claim they are not. As an outsider, I can see what they are, but I don't know all the background and never willl, don't even want to know, but I can still read and understand English. I just wonder why these arguments can't be carried on by email instead of such a public area. They sure color my opinion in terms of humanity towards each other and I feel sad for all involved. Education and religion? Seems not to me to be either.:(

Hi Seekinghelp: Thanks you for your thoughtful post. If I have offended you by my language or postings, I apologise.

My concern was to establish the recent track record of a degree mill operator who was inundating this board with posts in a transparent attempt to rehabilitate his reputation without materially changing his behaviour.

I did this the only way I knew how, once I saw that his recommendations were often of other mills, and his denunciations, cloaked in fervent piety, were absolutely consistent with the invective of mill operators and promoters directed against giants among us such as Dr Bear and others.

What I did, I did (however crudely) to defend legitimate DL and to warn.

I have nothing more to say about Dr James W. Clifton, aka Jimmy, PhD or DPhil (it varies), DSW, PsyD.

If his or his proxies' invective continues, I will quote it. Other than that, nothing more.

Best wishes to you in all your legitimate distance learning ventures, Janko

I have several very nice single family homes that are rentals. The minute a prospective tenant refers to themselves as a "good Christian" I immediately cross them off the list. Much of the distruction to my properties and the evictions I've been forced to initiate have been with "good Christian" tenants who don't pay their bills and destroy whatever itsn't theirs. It's very sad really.
