Anybody got any advice, praise, horror stories about air cleaners, hepa, electrostatic, ionizers, etc? Recommendations?

Our allergy & asthma doctor said that he did his own investigation into the question and he recommended the Sharp Ionic Breeze to us. The ones on TV are way too expensive. I bought three for about half the price on ebay. We've been using them for a few years and they work great, although one has recently burned out and been thrown away.

Be sure to check info on the ozone output. Cheap units sometimes put out a lot of ozone (which is very bad for your health) and little usable positive ionization unless you're 6" from the machine. There's getting to be a good body of research that suggests positive ionization can have a positive impact on mental health, equivalent in some cases to anti-deppressant medication. It has been shown to significantly increase serotonin levels in the brain.
