I was wondering if I could get some input on a dilemma i have on my hands. Unfortunately it doesn't involve DL, so this is the only place where i thought i could post it.

Here it goes. I have been accepted into 2 M.A programs. 1 is MA in General Psychology from New School University (NYC), and #2 is a ED.M in Counseling Psychology-Rutgers University (NJ). My future goal is to also go for my Psy.D or PH.D in Clinical Pschology. So with this i wanted to know what M.A program do you guys think would serve as a better stepping stone upto the Psy.D/Ph.D level. Which one do you think would look better on my transcript? It is a tough decision.

I also got into the FDU one, but at this point i won't go there because of personal reasons.

Rutgers, you say? That's what i also thought, but since the Rutgers M.A. is in Education, although its for Counseling Psych, i would have a harder time getting into a Psy/Ph.D program. Any thoughts?

Not necessarily. The degree if focused in Psychology and that degree can easily be transferred to a more specialized Psychology degree within that institution or anyone of your choice. It has one of the finest Psychology divisions and many opportunities to do your research. Rutgers is in agreement with a few clinics thought the state and within Rutgers itself. I can keep on going but I believe you get the picture. Good luck.

Regardless of the department that issues the degree, the Rutgers program will bring you closer to your goal. I believe that the Rutgers program will be seen as being substantially better preparation for a Clinical Psych PhD/PsyD program. The FD program could work too but the admissions folk will wonder if you can do the "face-to-face" stuff required in the counseling program. Good luck.
