Japan eases barrier for online universities

    Why is this thread in "Off-topic"? It's about distance learning.

    Increasing Japanese DL opportunities is certainly of benefit to the Japanese.

    But I'm a resolutely mono-lingual American. (If those stubborn foreigners can't understand English, then they must be hard of hearing. So shout at them!) For me, the biggest barrier to Japanese DL would be the Japanese language.

    I do hope that the Japanese government monitors their new DL schools' academics. Reducing requirements for starting a university from possession of a physical campus to having a clerical office opens up all of the familiar possibilities for degree-mill abuse if it isn't managed properly.
