With all the discussion of collegehints.com on the other thread, I was just wondering about a list/rating of the major internet education forums in light of the "ultimate perfection" of degreeinfo.com. :D
Also, please specify whether these forums primarily focus on DL or BM, or both. I have heard mentioned a.e.d., college-info, and collegehints, what else is out there?
Thanks for you help and input.

I posted this question about a year ago, and don't remember getting any response! (It is rare when the board does not respond)

DegreeInfo.com is the only educational forum that I frequent. Other pseudo educational forums seem too filled with gibberish, agendas and hokey postings. The forum here is the only mature one that I've found with consistent quality postings.

    "hokey postings"

Hey "me again" I initially read your post wrong as "hockey postings", and being from the frozen North where the worlds best hockey and players are from, I thought, "what is wrong with that, even on a education forum!"
However, I now see you had something in mind that is a far cry from the usefullness of hockey postings. I just thought, if I could get the scoreboards, stats, and standings on the same site as the education stuff, I would not have to visit 2 sites! :D

Maybe what we need is a dual forum initiated and run from Canada! What do you think there Dennis and other Canucks?
We might even run it in a more civilized and polite manner (thinking about what I have heard on the collegehints thread)!

I don't think I qualify in the polite department. Me and all the usual suspects, are apparently the cause of the meltdown at CollegeHints.

A Canadian forum wouldn't work since the majority of the DL programs are U.S. based. Canada's universities only contribute 6% to the total DL programs available. It would be best not to reinvent the wheel .

    Yes....

But Canada does contribute a whole lot of hockey so I think they would have some input to AlnEstn's suggested hockey DL board. :D

Well, aside from aed, there are 17 other education forums listed on Google in the alt.education.whatever section. In addition, there are a few to be found in the about.com forums. Some of those might be of interest to some (how many of you read alt.education.bangkok with any frequency?) but perhaps not to many of the regular degreeinfo readers. Which others did you have in mind?

    Jack,
O.K., a few questions for you (from someone with more limited experience in this area). What exactly is aed and is it related to online-college.info somehow?
For better or for worse, are the "big" 3 forums degreeinfo.com, online-college.info, and collegehints.com? How would these last 2 differ from the "ultimate perfection" (;) ) of degreeinfo.com?
Are there some other significant ones, even if they are significant for being "pseudo educational forums...too filled with gibberish, agendas and hokey postings" as Me Again noted?

I've always accessed usenet groups through Google. There are other ways but I'll leave them for others to describe. If you go to google.com and click on the "groups" button, then click on "alt," then, from the drop-down menu click on the area that will get you to "education" then click on "alt.education" and then click on alt.education.distance (aed). I've had some idea that online-college-info is essentially a copy of aed, although I've never checked to see how exact a copy it might be. As to your question about the "big three forums"...I can only say that I neither read nor am registered on those other forums. They are a waste of time
(a commodity which has become substantially more valuable to me in recent years). Perhaps you could create one of the ever-popular degreeinfo polls to research this issue.

    Jack,
Thanks for the basic help for this "dummy."
Some time back I got really frustrated with online-college.info when it was total craziness over there and decided that for the most part it was a waste of time (at the time I referred to it as NUTS-Not Unlike a Terrorist State).
I have not been to collegehints.com for some time, and very little in total, so I do not really know about it.
    Thanks.

Outside of a few forums specific to professional associations, I have yet to find a distance learning forum, other than Degreeinfo, that provides information useful for my profession.
