This report may very well be the key that opens Pandora's Box and exposes some of the corruption at the senior level. No one knows just how many fake degrees have been purchased by senior public servants.

    I'm a Angry Public Servant

It simply make me sick to see such abuses at such a senior level. I'm slowly working my way to the GS-15 and above level, this will inspire me even more.

I certainly wouldn't believe these people were suckered into this at all. The “I didn't know excuse" shouldn't work at this level. I personally feel instant dismissal and even fraud charges should be levied against each one of them.

One wonders if we will know. The GAO is now commissioned to do degree audits of 6 federal departments + the Pentagon. Will the results become known, either by totals, or individuals? How is the GAO doing this? Are they going to be checking just for the names of phony schools, or are they going to check every degree claim with the issuing university? That could be incredibly time consuming.

It seems, from another recent thread, that there are 5,500 Israeli civil servants with bogus degrees, just from the one British school. The US has just about 50 times the population of Israel. The potential for chicanery is enormous.

Re: I'm a Angry Public Servant

Having worked for government in a consultative capacity for a number of years, I often can't help but wonder just how many of my co-workers have fraudulent degrees.

It's an awfully strange feeling I get whenever I work on a project and the team leaders (usually well paid managers) don't know how to perform basic tasks such as ratios, cost analysis, budget administration and resource management. These are usually covered in the first year of any MBA program. Yet, they all claim to have advanced degrees from schools I have never heard of.
