    Hi all

Noticed that the number of posts is approaching 100,000. Is there going to be a special award for the lucky 100,000th poster?
How about a free doctorate from their favorite diploma mill?

    Other ideas are welcome.

I can think of a couple of awards:

    1. Able to close a thread of choice ;)

    2. Able to ban one member of choice

    3. Able to choose the forum division and structure :D

    Who was it????

Whatever else may transpire, I'll be glad to send that person an honorary doctorate from the Millard Fillmore Institute.*

Wouldn't it be neat if member #5,000 (we're approach that too) posted article #100,000.

*Hey, Fillmore's birthday was last week. I forgot to celebrate, yet again.

    An excellent award. :)

I proudly display my Doctor of Investigative Science diploma from the Millard Fillmore Institute.

Of note, I was staying at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, DC over New Years. They have the Millard Fillmore conference room. The next graduating class could maybe assemble there. :D

Looks as if we're just a few hours away from #100,000. (Wouldn't it be ironic if this were it?)

    This one may be 100,007th.

  13. 2nd roysavia's suggestion

I second roysavia's suggestion that the winner get their very own head pasted on their St. Regis professor of choice. Too funny!

There really is a Millard Fillmore College. It is part of the State University of New York, University at Buffalo. ( or as everyone who lived there called it UB, or those who could not get into its professional schools Jew B.)

Amazingly, it has been around since before my dad was in higher education in Western NY in the 1950's. I think it started after the depression. It was a 'non-traditional' school mostly for men out of work. It was one of the first distance learning schools in the country.

Millard Fillmore was of course born in Western New York and practiced law in Buffalo. I think he was elected to something as well. 13th Grand Poobah of the Waterbuffalo lodge ?

John: The reason we chose Millard Fillmore to honor with the honorary doctorates is that he was the first US president to turn down Oxford University, which offers an honorary to every outgoing US president, from Washington on. He wrote a charming letter about how he can barely read English, and certainly not Latin, and he could not accept something he couldn't read. He did visit England after his short presidency, and Queen Victoria recorded in her diary that he was "quite the handsomest man I ever met."

Too bad for Gus! He missed by only a few seconds obtaining a legitimate doctorate. ;)

If I have will now be awarded a Millard Fillmore doctorate, I guess I can drop out of my program at CSU?

Why spend the next two years working and writing a dissertation when I have already attained the lofty goal?

I would assume all would agree with this noble conclusion.

Is the doctorate on real paper also?

Dr. Humbug asks: Is the doctorate on real paper also?

The co-founder of the Institute replies: Far better. It is on Parchtex(c), a quite superior product, as I'm sure the three recent forum recipients would attest (except two of them cannot read or write).

    Not necessarily.

As reliable as oxpecker usually is, keep in mind that he is just an unofficial observer in this case, and we have yet to hear of any official tally of the results. For example, in comparing the posts of the few finalists, it is quite possible that a message was actually posted before another but simply took longer to appear or display on oxpecker’s computer for any number of reasons, such as, verbosity or hanging chads. Also, keep in mind that I am in Florida, and we have a well-documented history of demanding endless recounts. :D
