The DETC Accrediting Commission was supposed to be meeting yesterday and today to consider the following schools: Institutions Seeking Initial Accreditation: AHS Institute, Association for Hebraic Studies, Suffern, NY California Coast University, Santa Ana, CA Central State University, Riverside, CA Century University, Albuquerque, NM Educational Correspondence Training School, Erie, PA IMPAC University, Punta Gorda, FL International Sports Sciences Association, Santa Barbara, CA KLC School of Design, London, England, UK Lansbridge University, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada Rescue College, Kansas City, MO Sonoran Desert Institute, Scottsdale, AZ Southwest University, Kenner, LA Any word??
Sure, but its idiotically named Canadian affiliate has invented its very own dialect of the English, assumedly. http://www.princetoncollege.ca/News.htm#judysgro What a the hoot!
I don't know, Shirley. Unlike a few people here, I don't make predictions about accreditation decisions. The outfit looks shabby and my guess would be that they don't deserve accreditation, but I have inveighed for some time against another school (irrelevant to your concerns, lucky you) which many feel will actually get accreditation. My concern there and here is the same, however: if a school runs an obvious sleazy degree mill as a side business, how valid can that school's claims about itself possibly be? Furthermore, I trust Bruce's appraisal; he has been at this a lot longer than I have and knows a lot more than I do. I have been critical of the decisions of one of the regional accreditors for slackness, and also saw a national accreditor rightly (in my opinion) revoke accreditation in one instance and wrongly deny accreditation in another. Don't aim for the lowest quality schools on the idea that these will be cheaper or easier. Aim for the best quality schools and try to meet their demands. It took me several false starts--including nearly falling for the lies of one famous mill--before I got my bearings and made appropriate decisions. Don't rush. Look at lots of websites and ask lots of questions here. Best wishes to you. Janko

This Canada Princeton College seems to be a thinly-veiled back-door Canadian immigration vehicle, offering student visas for a price. It's interesting that the St. Regis-affiliated advertisement for a "foreign credential evaluator" that Galanga recently posted was really all about using the SRU version of "prior learning assessment" to qualify for American H-1B visas. "The 5th Agent Recruitment Training held on June 7, 2003 The representatives of over 60 recruitment agencies from countries of Russia, India, Mongolia, Korea, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand and Burma participated in the agent recruitment training seminar in Princeton College..." "Recruitment Seminars held in 38 cities in China Recently, Canada Princeton College concluded its Spring 2003 China International Student Recruitment Tour..."
I live near Riverside and have never heard of this college. Consider this: Riverside is in Southern California so why is it called Central State University? My guess it is to mislead people by referring to themselves as CSU Riverside thus invoking the perception that they are a California State University. CSU is commonly used abreviation for Cal State schools here in California.
Central State, at 3666 University Ave., #401, in Riverside, is a California-approved school. They have been offering Bachelor's and Master's degrees since 1996. Ian . . . if you happen to do a 'drive by' it would be interesting to learn what sort of a campus can be found in room (or box) 401.
